What Lathes do you use for gunsmithing?

This is the one I own. A Jet 1550. Fixed a lot of little things to make it work like a new one. Chambered my first barrel last summer and will do another one shortly. I like the 2" spindle bore and the slow speed for threading and stuff.

I'm just a poor red neck. Have had to use a Princess Auto drill press, and a head off a grinder with a floor jack as a tail stock assembly.

Pre-ww2 McDougall with so much wear it brings a tear to my eye. I will try to chamber a barrel with it one day just to see how bad I can screw it up.

Any 12 to 14" American or European lathe with minimum 1-3/8" bore spindle in decent shape will treat you better thàn the new china machines. Clausing/ Colchester Master 2500 is almost perfect. Or the Nardini/ Clausing/ Mascot 14-40 mentioned earlier. Both of these thread metric easily. A nice feature these days.
