What was that book Hungry mentions at his clinics as being the best M14 publication to buy? Are there any other M14 publications you guys think are worth owning?

I wonder, I bet if Hungry wrote a book it would sell like hot cakes.

Thanks in advance

I would not buy a book.
Get a copy of the Hungry M14S clinic DVD and watch it.

Got it! Been to a clinic as well. Missed the London clinic in February, so i'll be watching close for another one!

Then sign up to milsurps.com and view the FREE copy of Lee Emerson's book here:

Done!

EDIT - HOLY COW, 480 pages?! Gonna cost me $5 for a stack of paper, $50 for a toner cartridge and $5 for a binder LOL. I may just hunt down a published version of it instead to save me $ :D

And read the US Army M14 inspection booklet here:

Already printed out in a nice little binder next to my rifle/handloading books.

I would buy a book. A reloading manual. Speer and Hornady make good ones.

Don't have the Speer, but I do have the Hornady, Lee, Sierra and Lyman. Speer's and Nosler's will be next on that list.

The benchmark technical reference on both the M1 and M14 rifles is Kuhnhausen's Shop Manual. You can get it from Brownells.

Darn! I just put in an order on Thursday from Brownell's. I'll definitely put that down for when I order from them next. I figure I will be buying an M1A extractor spring from them once Wolverine gets their ARMS 18 mounts in.

Keep the suggestions coming :) I have a whole shelf dedicated for the M14 and would love to fill it up with good reading.

If I was to recommend only one M-14 book, I think that this would be the one.

The M14 Owner's Guide and Match Conditioning Instructions by Scott A. Duff and CWO John M. Miller. - History, development, selecting the rifle, disassembly, assembly, inspection, cleaning, zeroing, match conditioning, and much, much more. All copies are signed by Scott Duff!

The M14/M1ATM has dominated service rifle competition for over 30 years. Prior to publication of this book, no single document existed which described in detail selecting a rifle, operation, troubleshooting, disassembly/assembly, inspection, maintenance, cleaning, and zeroing the M14.

The M14 Owner's Guide also traces the history and development from the T44 through adoption and production of the M14 rifle. Evolution of the sniper rifle variations are chronicled. History of the military National Match rifle and the introduction and manufacture of the civilian M14/M1ATM rifles are described.

The Match Conditioning Instructions guide the reader through the activities required to convert the M14/M1ATM into a first-class target rifle. Numerous drawings and photographs aid in completion of this procedure.

A comprehensive appendix provides the reader with names, addresses, and phone numbers of reputable gunsmiths and suppliers of parts, tools, accessories and books.

The book is authored by recognized M1 authority Scott A. Duff and MTU armorer CWO John M. Miller. Nationally recognized military armorers, gunsmiths, manufacturers, suppliers and service rifle competitors assisted in preparation of this book.

I haven`t read any of the above, but I have read US RIFLE M-14 FROM JOHN GARAND TO THE M21. Like all Collector Grade Publications` books it is very thoroughly researched with tons of references. The book covers development and production in great detail, and has a chapter that is a complete reprint of the AMTU accurizing process.

The best book to buy is the one that:

* easiest to grab and read when on the 'throne' :D
* warmest to curl up with on cold evenings (DVD's don't curl up with you nicely)
* most durable to spilled coffee/tea/hot chocolate
* also prevents yer #### from falling off
* explains everything you need out of it

I cannot recommend one book to any single M14 addict. You have to trip down to a gun show, and hopefully find a copy to peruse. See if it works for you.... :D
