What make, model in .22cal for new girl shooter?

I bought my 8 year old daughter a Henry mini bolt this summer and she loves it - I am a Savage fan but wanted her to learn on tradional iron sights rather that the peep on the Savage rascal. We were at camp this fall and there was the mini bolt and a youth savage mark II - I thought the Henry would get put down in favour of the bolt action savage but to my surprise the Henry fit both the kids out there better and they were blazing it up one round at a time with the single.

My son's first gun was a deutche werke single shot. Picked it up in rough condition on the EE...Used a bluing kit and some stain to clean it up. Total cost (gun plus fixes) was $60.

There are some great deals to be had out there...I would recommend grabbing a beat up old .22 and fixing it up. Could even involve your daughter in the restoration, might give her an appreciation of how to properly care for a firearm.

The Savage Rascals look like decent rifles. Ive held one and its quite nice. Peep sights, accu trigger. Id like one if they came with a bigger buttstock.

I got my 8 year old grandson a CZ Scout for X-Mass this year ( Santa hasn't delivered it yet) .Very nice rifle for a younger kid. I took it out to the range to get the scope sighted in for him and man does that thing shoot. 50 yrds 10 shots grouped just under 1/2 inch with the cheap federal bulk bullets. I would recomend having at look at one, a little expensive but worth it in my books.

Agree with 204.

Some of the suggestions are nice toys for some up to 10 but at 12 she is almost ready to go to an adult sized .22.

A CZ 453, 453 or 455 will last the rest of her life and the scout configuation is probably as close as you could hope to get.

another good point about the CZ Scout is that once she out grows the Scout stock it can be replaced with a full size stock. The rifle comes with a single shot follower type mag and will accept 5 shot mags as well. There is even trigger kits available for them as they use the same trigger as the full size models. I looked at all of the youth models availlable and the CZ Scout seems to be the only one that can grow along with your child.
