What make no4 mk1 is this?

Went at it with the paint stripper and was fortunate to find a beautiful matching beech wood under all that poop brown paint! some old markings and war wounds see the light of day again, but unfortunately everything was sanded, likely before the paint job. still, this is wayyyyy better than paint.

Some oil:

Score on the wood underneath, that should look great once you get a few coat of blo into it. Just makes you wonder what people were thinking when they painted it in the first place lol.

Thanks! Yea I was impressed with the nice matched set. I couldn't believe someone covered it. Oh well, better than chopping it down!

Just so you know - as per the "armourer's marks" list on the Marstar website, that "ZF" was a code stamped on the butt stock by UK armourers that means "Beyond Local Repair" - that probably goes with the welding on the cross bridge? In any case, might be worth your while to read up on the Milsurp site all the articles about Lee Enfield No.4 by Peter Ladler. He has some fairly detailed step by step checks to do to ensure that your rifle and the various bolt components are fitted safely - bolt fit into receiver lugs, bolt head clocking on bolt, firing pin protrusion, headspace.

Well that is good to know about the zf! The bridge repair was hopefully the problem, or a takeoff stock from a dead rifle. I fired it and had no explosion or sign of excessive headspace. Bolt matches reciever.
