What makes a 1st Class IPSC Match

Have a look at these as an example. This was a fantastic match, as it is every year.

IMO-- I think more would come out to a little less formal(IPSC,IDPA) format.
Multiple options to shoot, fun- thinking stages, some no-brainer blazeing speed short stages. At my former club we did a hat draw, shoot off at the end on steel. fast and fun, great competition.
great props are always a plus and add to the experience.
Don't get me wrong but a lot of IPSC guys are too pretensious and up-tight. It makes things really unenjoyable for new people to the sport, most will walk away and never look back.

No doubt everyone enjoys a match with everything mentioned so far...

It's probably a really good thing that most of the labour required to "build" a good bunch of stages comes at little to no cost. :D

Scenario based stages not just generic heres some walls and targets.

Unfortunately part of the politically correct changes that IPSC made years ago was that scenarios became verboten.

While we are dreaming, I'd like to see Metric targets come back :)

So....are we too far away...or too controvresial....or what....I think in the last 3 years we have offered some pretty f**king good matches..but people from the gta don't attend.....what gives?

Aylmer is pretty far even for people in Toronto. Part of the problem I had when I was competing regularly in IPSC was I was on the east side of the GTA but most of the Level II's were a pretty far drive (2+ hours) for me. Peterborough was about the only club that was close. This was all when gas was like $0.70/litre too... it would be hard to justify for me now to drive out Grenville or wherever at like $1.30 - $1.40 a litre now.

Not true! I asked Vince about this and he said that scenario based stages are allowed, they just don't want them read out as part of the stage briefing. More of a time saving thing.

Pat is probably reluctant to do so because he obtained his answers privately from me. The answers I gave him were:

1. We still design and build courses of fire with scenarios in mind, in order to keep things as practical as possible, but we no longer include a story when reciting the Written Stage Briefing.

2. Stage names are OK, but be reasonable. For example, "The Mine" is better than "WMD Underground Storage"!

Wow. I wish. I live in Fort Mac ... Routinely travel 9+ hours (driving) or fly to Calgary then drive 2-3 hours. We make it fun though .. 4 of us in my truck with all our gear, split the gas ..

This is a part of the bigger problem right there. Some people do nothing to help out, just show up and shoot. Seems like its the same people time and again doing set up, tear down, being the MD, building props, etc. Those people do it on their own free time. Since IPSC is made of volunteers, how else could it happen.

There can come a point though when those enthusiastic people can get less enthusiastic and say "eff this, someone else can step up" and then the cycle repeats.

Yeah I think that unless you are in the west end of TO (burlington, wentworth, guelph, waterloo), or to the north Of TO (Barrie, Sharon, aurora, peterborough, orrillia) everywhere else in Canada requires a long drive to get to matches.

VP can lick my rectum

He and his mininons are what keeps me from holding L3s.

Now I am going to have to start reading out senarios!

"you are caught unawares by an egotistical meglomanaic Aussi now living in HK............he attacks you but being a misearble shot has missed every shot. This makes sense as he just uses IPSC matches as junkets

On the audible........................"

Personal feelings aside there is a misconception that we are not allowed stage names or scenarios. I'm not sure where this came from but I was just clarifying IPSCs position that scenarios and stage names ARE allowed and the basis for this sport.

one thing I should add, be creative but remember it's a shooting contest, not a "hey can you put this thing over there, then pull this thing out, put it in this other thing, run over here and do it again with another thing". While the Lord of the Rings match at EESA was overall a good match, awesome props, some great stages, I felt (My opinion) that there were too many things that had to be done for no other reason than to do them. I know some people will disagree and I don't want to detract from how it was still a great match, but that's just my opinion.

+ 1.....gun loaded in the holster should be the norm for most stages. A stage starting with gun on table, stage retrieving gun (like retrieving your unloaded handgun from a wall safe) could be in there...but lets keep it a shooting contest. I like drawing my gun from a holster and shooting things. Movement is good, but it should not be a decathalon.
