Hello all,

Quick question to get it out of my head, what makes a BP front stuffer pistol an antique? The action/lock or the barrel, or both?

Thanks all.

Ti

Date of manufacture, must be Pre-1898. Action, barrel, or lock doesn't matter if it's made in or after 1898.

some where hidden away, I have a letter from the RCMP saying that the breach plug and perhaps the barrel constitute the frame or receiver of a muzzle loader. Significants is that you can build a antique muzzle loading long gun or handgun around an antique barrel and breach plug assembly. Having said that, you have to be able to establish by maker's name and / or proof marks that the above was made before 1898.

Oh? Now this is what I was getting at with the first post. If a guy built a muzzle loader around a lock (replace barrel, ect.), it would then be declassified from antique status?

I think in the case of a BP flint pistol the barrel is the receiver/ frame, that is why it has to be registered if you drill the vent hole on kit guns or undrilled reproductions.the same would apply to replacing the antique barrel with a modern one. just my 2 cents:stirthepot2:
