A couple of questions for you. What type of targets are you engaging that occur in multiples at close range and are fast moving, or are you simply providing a scenario to justify your shotgun?
I agree that one should be capable of making solid hits at 100 with a slug to be considered proficient in their use. However, if your situation requires 100 yard shots why are you using a smooth bore, bead sighted heavy recoiling, low mag capacity shotgun? Wrong tool for the job, try a rifle. Even though your shotgun is capable of such work it is not an ideal setup nor the most proficient for such a situation. Hence, its tactical setup is not inline with the tactic required for the situation. Your shotgun is not very tactical.

All well and fine "IF" you have a rifle with you,not too often luging more then one long arm with you at a time out side a vidio game.
As has been said here."Tactical" is the application of the tool, and not the tool itself.
I'm not debating what equipment you have on hand. I'm questioning why you would select the shotgun for a situation such as that mentioned above. If you expect to engage your target(s) at 100 yards or more why select a shotgun when a rifle is clearly the better choice?
TDC
You wouldn't select a shotgun,it's a bad choice for any thing but close defence ,and mostly at nite,I would think.
But when things go south, you use what you have,Soo... why not have something thats flixable enought to reach out from point blank to ,say 100yds.
Myself,I'd take a carbine any day,but the way of the world.....well ,you know what the French say,"That's Life."
Or load some slugs...
Guns aren't tactical; people are.
What makes a shotgun "tactical" is the person holding it regardless what gizmos are bolted to it.
5.11 sells tactical socks...

Best socks I've owned. Plus cuz they're TACTICAL I can kill at 20 yards with them (after they've been worn 16 hours).![]()

Ummmmm, the kind of shotgun you would prefer to have when fighting off a zombie horde.
Hey, it's been 7 pages and no one mentioned it yet
In all honesty, when defending your home at 3:15 in the morning, wearing nothing at all (sorry for the mental pic), whatever shotgun you have loaded and are carrying is now tactical. No it doesn't matter if your a boyscout and have planned ahead and have a valtro, or if you have an old 28" barrel sxs, it just means your tactics will be slightly different.
If you have a tactical shotgun to breach doors in your own home, you either work at a door & frame factory, or your a complete idiot!
