What makes glocks so popular????

I like Glocks I got two myself 19 and 23. Might pick a 17 as well.

I customize them a little bit, NY1 Trigger Spring / 3.5# Connector combo, better sights (10-8 Performance) and Vickers Mag Release.

Wow, does that ever sound like a 1911 owner - maybe the Glock is the 1911 of the Polymer set? Of course there are people who'll tell you that 1911 owners do that kind of thing because the pistol is "no good" out of the box. :stirthepot2: ...........

Hang on a minute, I'm putting on my flame resistant shorts :)

I love the boxiness of Glock pistols. They are tough, reliable and simple. They aren't high end guns but who said they were?

What would classify a pistol "high end"? Expensive crap that doesn't work? A reliable and inexpensive(not cheap) pistol does not preclude it from being a high end firearm. Reliability is the only factor with any value when labeling a firearm as "high end".

My personal experience with Glock nay sayers is that the majority of them have never even seen a Glock in person, never mind fire one. If you want a hand gun that will most likely never fail you in combat like conditions, then try a Glock.

Seeing how beauty is in the eye of the beholder, it's pointless to talk about how ugly or splendid they are. Also, if that's your first consideration when buying guns, you might have bigger issues than whether or not you have a combat effective gun.

Here's the conversation that I had with a Glock hater that should tell you how "informed" these people are:

GH: I'll take a nice sturdy metal gun over that Tupperware crap any day

Me: Which one?

GH: Any one. I'll even take an S&W-M&P before a Glock. At least the M&P has a slide and barrel made out of metal. (this dimwit believes that the Glock slide and barrel are made of plastic)

Me: *raised eye brows, speaking slowly* Have you ever shot a Glock?

GH: Nope!

Me: Have you ever held one or seen one in person?

GH: Nope!

Me: OK then!

That's where I just dropped the subject because I felt I was getting dumber by the minute talking to the guy.

Here are some videos that might tell you a few things about the reliability of Glocks:

Glock Torture Tes-Bucket of Mud
Glock Torture Test-Dropped out of a plane

I was never a 'tupperware' gun type until I fired a friend's G17. I quickly bought a G21 and G17. I've since sold the G21 but not because it was a bad firearm but because I was overly optimistic about its fit to my hands when I bought it. The G17 is easy to shoot, quite accurate and is painless to disassemble/reassemble. Stock and custom parts are easily found and are reasonably priced. It's a great shooter but I will concede the fact that some may want something different if they want an ogler....:p

I recently got a 1911 Norc/Para custom from Armco, very nice pistol but still finicky if being compared to my Glocks. They are like the energizer bunny, just never quit!!!

Save up and get a Kimber or Dan Wesson!!

..until someone explains to me why Glock (and some others) insist on manufacturing and using unsupported chambers, I refuse to give them my time or money.

Dude, the unsupported chamber isn't an issue to anyone, except you that is. Oh, and people who don't pay attention while reloading.....them to.

LOL @ 50 cent with his finger off the trigger!
Xman i had the exact same conversation with two of my friends this weekend, calling Glock 'plastic crap' and when I asked them if they ever fired them, they said, 'no but I had fisher price as a kid' :p

Glocks have been contraversial guns since they came out and were rumoured to defeat the metal detector, to shoot underwater, etc.
S&W had a monopoly over the LEO market, until Glock made a reliable, inexpensive, ulilitarian autoloader that had a high magazine capacity and ultimate durability. Then other brand loyalists tried their best to knock Glock off its horse as it gained so much market popularity.

I don't hate Glocks, but I'd prefer a Browning Hi-Power. It's kind of a nostalgia thing, and I am more of a revolver man anyway (- Webley for preference.)

My brother has a Glock, and his dog has one, too.

BAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA:stfun00b: A polymer slide, that's a good one.. ahahahha

I don't know how you stayed calm with that idiot. Then again i would have just givin up on the conversation right there. That goes beyond sticking his foot in his mouth.

I think the big thing with Glocks, is the dishwasher cleaning technique....

;)

Love 'em or hate 'em, they do seem to work. But yes, I personally believe that hockey sticks have more ergonomic je ne sais quoi...(!)

Now that I'm seriously starting to look for a 10mm pitol,

The thread started with his desire for a 10 mm handgun. As an owner of both at Colt 10mm Delta Elite and a Glock 20 I will hands down go with the Glock any day, anywhere. It is absolutely reliable. The one drawback to this model of Glock is the larger frame demands a person with a hand to match. It may not be comfortable to someone with smaller sized hands. Of the two it is also the more accurate one as well.

The Colt is far prettier, fits the hand better, points better but when I shoot factory loads or my hotter reloads out of it the pistol just feels like its operating at its maximum and has no more to give.

Anyone else have a 10mm in another brand they can shed some light on?

Glocks are very accurate and cheap. They don't break, jam or do anything wrong. I don't like the triggers, and some of them make strange noises when you pull the slide back... sounds like a creaky screen door opening to me.
They are an enigma to me. I've shot them a few times and I don't really like the feel or the trigger, but I keep going back to them for some reason. I dry fired one that had an aftermarket trigger in it, and that made a huge difference. Maybe I do like them afterall? I like the Springfield XD much more for feel... but I'll be damned if I don't always find myself looking at Glocks right after.

Here's a pictorial comparison of the "unsupported chamber" issue. The difference between Glocks and other makes is next to zero.

Fact remains they're the only gun manufacturer that I know of (admittedly, there's a lot that I don't know) that discourages against reloads in their manual. That says something.

That and the fact that I've never liked the feel of them in my hands means I look elsewhere, simple as that.
