What media do you use to clean brass

What media do you use to clean your brass ?
Are there any household items you can use?
The closest dealer that sells the stuff is Gander Mountain or Cabela's in Michigan and I don't want to drive 1 or 2 hours to get it.
Most sell corn cob or nut shells, is there anything else in the media or is it just corn cob?
Has any body tried course saw dust ?
 
This topic has come up a few times here. I use crushed walnut from the pet store (bird litter). I picked up a 25lb bag for around $25. It will last me for quite a while.

I'm on a small scale, so I go cheap with dishwashing detergent mixed with concentrated lemon juice and hot water. Stir, leave overnight, rinse in hot water and leave out to air dry :)

Well I'll be a rat's ass, there's a new one to me. :confused: I like the idea of no airborn nasty dust, tell me more pontcanna how well does this work? Do you actually scrub them a bit or just let'm sit?
 
Salty, if you have a tumbler you wont wan tto wash brass...

I use walnut form the pet sotre, and it is so cheap I just chuck it when iut gets less abrasive.:)

I find it cleans brass quite well, not to a new sheen, but much better than they were when I picked them up off the ground. I reload in small batches (for handgun) of about 150 rounds a time. I stir 'em a bit, no scrubbing :)
 
Rice works also ....cheap at walmart....use it 3-4 times throw out the dirty rice replace with new rice
 
I find corncob with some polish and a couple hours in the tumbler produces the best results. I have tried using walnut as well, but found that it didn't do the job nearly as well as corncob and polish alone. I usually use a few capfuls of Dillon's polish and have liked the results. I like my brass sparkley and like new when they come out of the tumbler, less wear and tear on the sizing dies!
 
pontcanna, will that solution take corroision out of the insides of the cases? I was thinking about using a solutioin of maby vinigar, or maby clr or some such thing. Well I just tryed some vinigar, mixed with some table salt. Yes, it does take out the corrosion... but it leaves the spots pink :(

Now to build a tumbler... A wind powerd one would be kind of cool.
