I've been using Corn cob for tubling brass and didn't like it that much; dumped it and now looking for something else; I found it probuced way too much dust...what's better out there?

btw I've heard someone say they use rice, would it really work? probably would be cheaper too...

Crushed walnut works well. About $29.00@25lbs at pet stores under "bird cage litter".

Tried rice. Works, but when you start breaking de-capping pins you might want to try something else.

Walnut works best for scouring dirty cases, but over time it will pick-up and generate a ton of dust. Before it's lost it's effectiveness, you'll be chucking it out because of the dust.

Untreated corn cob is great for polishing and absorbs a lot of dust/dirt before it too becomes unusable.

My method was to clean cases for one hour in walnut, then for 2+ in corn cob.

Yes rice works very well..and its cheap...no dust. Clean cases with primers still in or you'll have to pick a rice kernel out of ""Every"" primer hole!
I'll have to give rice a try. Is that just the regular white? I have a cutting torch tip cleaner and/or a 5/64" drill bit I usually poke through the flash hole, just to make sure it's as clear as it should be.

Another vote for crushed walnut shell...
I buy a 50lb bag for $25-$30 from an industrial abrasives supply place. 'Look in the phonebook under "Abrasives"
A drop or two of liquid Flitz or similar metal polish added to the media in the tumbler gives me the shiniest brass.

Untreated corn cob. I don't like the walnut, or any other media with "polishing agent" added. Too much dust, and some of the polishing crap forms a "film" on the brass.

Cases don't have to sparkle, they just have to be functionally clean.

Any kind of rice works great..biggest 10/20 lb. bag for the least amount of money...my cleaner is vibratory type and not a tumbler. Cdn Tire carries steel awls/picks for a few bucks complete with handle to get media out of primer holes or out of small ie: .222. .223 cases.

I'll give it a try in my tumbler, thanks. See you at 'Timmy's' or at the range.
