What Milsurp do I want?

Don't overlook the Swedish Mausers, they are some of the best examples and shoot great.

I have the m/38 with the 24" barrel but there is also a the m/1894 cavlery carbine model with the 18" barrel.

The 6.5x55 is a great flat shooting cartridge that will be cheaper than the 8mm.

My interest in milsurps is pretty minimal; I just salivated over this: http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=334105&Main=224175

Would just be nice to have a military mauser carbine for my collection/ range fun/ fireballs

That's a custom job, with what appears to be very European origins.

If that's what you're looking for, go onto the "banner advertiser" INTERSURPLUS at the top of the page. They have hundreds of excellent sported milsurps, some under $300 and for a bit more might even have a scope mounted.

An issue with many of the rifles coming out of Sweden is that they have fixed sights which limits the handloading options.

Milsurp, want to run a 198gr Prvi bullet at 2200 (instead of 2400-2500), set the sights for 300m, problem solved.

The Yugo M48 BO (not marked export model) was a good rifle, fit and finish was a lot better than the M48 and M48a. It was also one the my best shooters as well, very accurate. Another option is look for a m1908 or m1935 brazilian mauser. One of the best Mauser's out there.

Somehow I'm under the impression that the OP's funds are limited and most of the suggestions here would be sheer fantasy at the present time.

If the OP is looking for a good old boomer in 8x57, an M48 in one of the several models will do just fine. I have lots of 98’s and others with that action, but my old go-to 8x57 is a beat up M48 with a poor barrel. Blast off a few Yugo surplus rounds and I’m good.

The 1908/1935 Brazil Mausers are nice, but a tad pricey. I have some of them too, but they are new or near new. One has matching original target and bayonet. Target is dated 1913.

Listing unobtanium rifles for the OP to buy is just not fair.

Husqvarna M98 might be worth a look… basically a 98 action purpose-built as a sporter and can be found in 8x57 pretty easily. Quality is top notch, beautiful wood and bluing

Not really a “milsurp” but of the same era and quality

If no guns fit the criteria that aren't difficult to obtain or inordinately expensive thems the breaks. Reason I made the thread

Beats the suggestions of husqy sporters and fn 49s lol

Hello, I have owned a lot of guns but never been a milsurp guy, unless bubbaing the hell out of a Mosin in my early 20's counts.

I am thinking of adding a mauser to my safe.

I have a few criteria I am hoping to fill:

- carbine length barrel (20ish)
- not made in the third reich by slave labourers (this one is firm, mazel)
- In 8x57 (I am really invested in 8x57 and 8x57 r components)

I know a vz33 would fit these, and frankly be perfect, but I assume they are difficult to obtain and expensive. I wouldn't mind "shooter grade", but would prefer not "used in the tropics and put away in a seaside warehouse with no grease" grade...

Thanks!

Mauser 98K made before 1939 - harder to find, but they are there. No slave labour yet.
