Hi All,
I just picked up this Husqvarna in .270 for $200. While it is a bit worn on the outside the bore looks really good. I need to get the right bases for it, the ones that are on it are different heights:eek:. CFC says it's a Model 4000 but I don't think that is right but that is what they registered it as. 530mm barrel length, side safety, straight comb with cheekpiece. Anyone know what it is?

Here's some shots of the action and bolt if that helps. I just need to know what # Weaver bases to put on it. It has #45 rear and #46 front now but the rear is at least 1/8" higher than the front. It also has a hinged floor plate.

Model 4100 is my bet. That is $200 well spent.
Great score.

Sounds like the bases you have are for a large ring FN action. The front ring was larger. Yours is a small ring being a smaller height difference between the two. My Buehlers are made to fit you action, I wish they would fit my 1100 Husqvarna but it is a large ring. I will have to make a shim.

What kind of mounts do you want to use?

Thanks for your answers. Is there a 1 piece base to fit this gun? The scope seems to fit a little too far forward and hits the front ring and maybe with a 1 piece I will get an extra ring groove in the front

Sky is the limit for scope mounts on an FN action Kim.:) Second only to maybe the Remington line of rifles or Winchester perhaps.

What do you want. Cheap but strong, change out the rear Weaver base for the one they mentioned get some allow Weaver rings and you are set. They aren't pretty but they work well.

Burris, Leupold and a few others make the one piece steel mounts and are readily available. Try P&D, their banner is at the top of the forum page.

So it's just a standard FN action, Mauser 98 small ring? I thought it looked alot like the Parker-Hale I had a few years ago. All I could find at Weaver site was a listing for a one piece nobody in town here stocked. Thank You all for all the help.

I don't think it's an FN. It was made by Husqvarna.

My bad, I was thinking the pre-HVA action. Sorry!

If memory serves, the Parker Hale (Santa barbara 98 action) is a large ring, your existing bases would work on that action. The 4100 is a small ring 98.

If you are in a hurry, call P&D and let them know. They had a set of rings to me in about 30 hours!:)

You need the Weaver bases already mentioned. I opted for the steel grand slam weaver bases S55 and S46 for my 1640 action in 6.5x55. Steel weaver rings from win/64's spare parts box.

Before cranking the scope in tight, I suggest that you shim the bases if necessary to make them level and then lap the scope rings. Also, you may have to file down the bottom of the supplied mounting screws. The front were OK on mine but the rear needed to be filed down for the bolt to clear without rubbing on them.

There is no windage adjustment with these rings (20 clicks did it) but its a very solid setup - much more solid than the L-brand style IMO. Elevation was almost right on the money boresighting - leveling the bases pays off.

I think I'll try the aluminum bases for now, steel Weaver rings from the spares box. I do have a bunch of shim stock so I'll do that. The barrel channel has been sanded out all the way to the front of the action so I think maybe glass bed the first 2" or so of the barrel also. I don't think I'll do the action yet as it has a pillar mounting system. Anyone got any idea what year the gun was built? Serial# 174###. I'd also like to get rid of the front sight. It looks to be silver soldered in place. Do I just heat the barrel up till it lets loose and then let it cool down naturally or would it be better to just grind it off and clean up the grind marks?

Don't do the bubba routine to that old rifle. It didn't do anything to you to deserve that. ;)

I'd get it bedded, trigger adjusted and give the bbl a good cleaning to remove all copper/crud and leave her as is.

Here is a question for "Why Not?"
Greetings. In the early 1960s Husqvarna had a light weight model they called the "Huskie" or maybe, "Husky." The barrel was ½ inch, or so, shorter than my 1949 standard model with large ring Mauser action with the Swedish Crown on top of the ring.
This lightweight model soon got a great reputation for accuracy, reliability and you name it. I can't remember if it was large ring, or small. A distinguishing feature was the front sight seemed to be set back a bit farther on the barrel, than is usual.
Is this the rifle in question in this thread?

Cheers Bruce
