So many model 99s were produced that I
find it a challenge to identify this model. Perhaps
a knowledgeable Savage aficionado might know what this
Model is from the following details?
Caliber .300 Savage, steel butt plate with no stamps,
counter, safety above lever just behind trigger,
Round 24” barrel, curved schnabel for-end, checkered pistol grip,
front sight gold bead above a red dot, not a takedown,
Ser no. 603718. There is a small circular stamp on the
boss at the front of the lever.

Thanks in advance for your help.

An EG made in 1951 that shouldn’t be drilled & tapped for a scope.

Well here is another for the identification challenge. A Savage 99 that a friend bequeathed to
Me when he passed. It came with 2 boxes of factory ammunition, brass and
dies. A 99 takedown model in .22 hi power. I am uncertain as to the
Model and date but will ask my friend to post pictures. The serial no is 204808.

From OP - that Savage 99 in 22 Hi-Power:

MadDog mawd is the 99 expert.
Joe-Joe wares’t art though?

Better late than never.

When someone asks a question like this it's always safe to say 99 EG, could have been a 99R but the EG's especially in 300 Savage are like Winchester 94's in 30-30, probably the most common model and caliber Savage ever manufactured.

There actually was a run just before this serial number and there was a chance that it could have been factory D&T'd but seeing as how the Savage 99 stamp wasn't moved to the left hand side of the receiver it was done after it left the factory.

The take down as well, 1899H's usually came in 22 HP or 30-30 but some in 25-35 were made as well. Now find one chambered in 22 HP with a solid frame and you have something real special.

Serial number 204808 is a Savage 1899 made in 1919 according to the serial number search site.
