What new gear did you try this year and how did it work

Etymotic Gunsport Pro 15 electronic ear plugs for hearing protection and hearing enhancement.

Absolutely amazing for dogging and stand hunting.

Sitka coldfront jacket and timberline pants. Absolutely love them. Spent a night out in the bush 2nd week of deer season without anything but the clothes on my back, rifle, and fanny pack just for fun. Great gear.

Bought a couple of the Sitka Incinerator muffs for keeping your hands warm...was sceptical initially however the ability to wear light or no gloves while on a deer stand for hours on end was a great advantage. Super warm and well designed piece of kit for stand hunting.

I bought a Bear Wild compound bow. I've shot bows before but I am new to archery hunting. My main motivation was a longer deer season and being able to hunt on Sundays for turkey in Oro-Medonte. After a bunch of practice, I managed to get my first Ontario and archery deer on November 6th using G5 Montec arrowheads and Carnivore arrows. I want to expand my bow hunting now, so I tried to kill a few small game animals. I'm pretty good at missing squirrels. Spot and stalk hunting turkey was pretty entertaining but ultimately fruitless.

Nikon 3i range finder. Now that I have one, a range finder is amazing and I am very happy that I got one. I missed on a turkey with my bow at what I thought was 40 yards, turns out it was more like 60 yards. I lost an arrow and spooked those birds pretty bad.

1) Coast HL5 Headlamp: Works good - like it.

2) Havalon Piranta-Edge Knife: Works good - like it.

3) Browning Bird'n Lite Strap Vest: Good vest but find the shoulder strap interferes with gun mount. (now bought an Orvis sling pack to try)

4) Walker Alpha Ear Muffs: Work good - like them.

5) Turkey Load Shells (the make escapes me at the moment): Can't comment on quality because after two years I still have the same 5 shells. I am rotating them now so there is even wear from loading and unloading. At the pace I am going it could be years before I can comment on their performance. :kickInTheNuts:

I made a deer hoist to keep in my truck. I was tired of breaking my back trying to drag a dead deer up tailgate and into my truck box, and I don't always use the same truck. I use a small peice of plywood for a ramp, and when I get home it has no problem to hoist straight up for hanging or butchering. No more sore back or waiting for the buddy who never shows up to help.

Havalon Piranta knife. Blades are sharp and work well. Gut and skin entire buck with single blade. Was still sharp.
Tikka T3 Lite, a real pleasure to carry...also shoots like a much more expensive rifle.
Vortex Ranger 1000...never had a RF before, never want to be without it now.
The rope and plywood method to load a deer. Piece of cake!
