What non-surplus ammo do you like to use in your M-14?

I use, Winchester 147g FMJ for plinking and Winchester 150g SoftPoints for Hunting. The FMJ's put nice holes in paper while the SoftPoints put nice holes in Deer :)

K.

I use almost exclusively surplus, but Winchester white box 147 or 150 grain FMJ or 168 .grain Federal gold metal match. Cost wise the Winchester is cheaper than the FGMM , FGMM cost about $20 U.S. per box

A non-answer to the origional question, but I just bought a case of the newly arrived SA surplus. $452 out the door for 1260 rounds. (One plastic case with 9x140 battle packs sealed in plastic for long term storage. Didn't come with a tinfoil hat though)

I was going to get it from Districorp, but found out Williams Arms and Target Sports had purchased in bulk from them. I dropped into Target Sports on the way back from the city.

Only thing that would make this ammo any nicer is if it was Boxer primed.

If the rumours are true about how it left SA, it's the last of it we'll see. Enjoy the moment.

Wow ! That seems like a lot of money . My Dad ask me to pick up some Sa for him today from the show today and it was a wopping $39.95 U.S. + 8.25% sales tax . I remember paying less than $20 for the same 140 rd. battle pack a year ago . I sold him some of my stash for $30 .
The rumor I hear that the SA is the last of the surplus .

The battle pack up here is $50.50 taxes included versus about $43 for yours. Factor in the exchange rate, and they are about the same.

How does the SA shoot? I have found that the Porguese (2") shoots much better than the Austrian.

It would seem that everyone has a different experience with different surplus rounds. Granted, on the whole, there are less people out there that say they find SA shoots tighter than Port. Of course, there are some that like the SA better. If you even have the option of buying different kinds of surplus rounds (good luck) I'd recomend trying a box or two of each through your own rifle and going from there.
