What NOT to do with a 1911....

So I finally took the plunge. I am entering the world of 1911's... just ordered my Blued Norc 1911A1 Police Model from CanAm last night.

Just wondering if some of you guys could tell me what NOT to do with a 1911? Anything that could potentially be harmful to the gun.

For example, I have read that slingshotting the slide on an empty chamber is not good for 1911s. Anyone else know anything about this or other things to avoid on this specific gun? What about dry-firing? I know that dry-firing is not recommend in a striker fired gun.... so what about a hammer fired gun like a 1911?

Thanks

Do not drop the slide on a empty chamber.

Pffft @ pampering the gun.

1911's are real manly are they not, so why treat it like a lady an gently caress it, beat it like yo old lady who just spilled ya rum!

Especially on something as cheap as a Norinco! We all know unless ARMco has tinkered with your Norc 1911, it not that good lol.

don't drop the gun, ive seen one dropped and it blew to pieces LOL no damage it just auto-field stripped

 Ignorance is a bliss.

I'll run my usless norinco against your 1911.

That would require me to bring out my buddies Norinco .45. ;)

I try not to comment on stuff I don't use. I've shot both tuned an non tuned Norc 1911, I love both but the tuned one just behaves a little bit better.

BTW to add to this post, I LOVE Norinco!

When installing the slide stop, try not to install it by pushing it in against the frame and then rotating it into the hole....just line it up with the hole and against the plunger and pop it in with control using both hands(left hand thumb and right hand thumb and first two fingers)
:)
Your left hand will also be squeezing the slide and frame to hold it in the correct position while you manipulate the slide stop.

Enjoy your new pistol!

Why is that if you don't mind me asking? Not questioning the validity of your statement, I am just curious since obviously, I know nothing about these guns.

If you look at a .45ACP cartridge you can see the groove that the extractor fits into. If you load into the chamber the extractor will be damaged when the slide closes. It is meant to pick up the round in the magazine.

Don't under any circumstances outshoot any Sig, HK or Glock owners using your 1911 and then inform them it's a "Norc". No good can come of that. :D

Do not under any circumstances leave it in the safe when you go to the range. 1911's of all kids do not like that...
Ensure you feed it on a regular basis. at a minimum i suggest at least 50 rounds a trip.

Don't load single rounds into the breach, feed it rounds only from the magazine.

Could someone confirm this? The way the last statement is worded seems to imply only the .45ACP cartridge has an extractor groove, but as we all know, every semi-auto cartridge has such a groove. Should I understand it's never a good idea to feed single rounds through the breech, or is it only a problem in 1911s?

I found a simpler way to doing that. I line it up with the hole, but use a toothpick to push the plunger stop out of the way. Easy peasy and ZERO stupid scratch :)
