What Old Budget Rifle Should I Buy?

Anything that ventures within 200 yards of a 9,3x57 loaded with a 285 soft nosed privipartizan loping along around 2000 fps is going down like it was hit by the hammer of Thor, don't worry about follow up,shots, you're not going to need one.....it's kind of like a 30/30 on steroids, and I've got 3 of them, superb condition, walnut stocks, excellent barrels ,and didn't pay more than $250 each from Tradeex ,which is about the best value you can get for your money

Yes,I know the 9,3x57 is a 'short range ' 250 yard gun...but 250 yards is way farther than I've ever shot...

--- X 2 On This !! --- a Great gun and Caliber ---- and Great people to deal with !! ----

Just bought a couple of these today, one a 98 with side mount 4 power scope and a 96 no scope, cant wait to play with these pumpkin chukers, also recently picked up a real nice Stevens 325 3030 and put a Williams receiver sight on it, it shoots at 100 yards a 1.25 inch group ,for me that's great heck I have had scoped rifles I cant do that with

^ no real intention to hide. I just change locations with some regularity.

I think I may have done the thing people in Ontario are often accused of doing, where they conflate the reality in their province with that in others, with my "deer legal" criteria.

I guess as punishment I will have to buy a .270 pump action remington.

Hay man, don't knock the Remington 760 in .270.

My personal sweetheart, a Win 100 carbine in 308. I was using a custom 700 in 308 on last dear hunt. Was pushing tall cattails looking for a big buck,, and got more than I bargained for: charged by a wild boar! Tails were 3ft tall,, could hear it coming but could not see the darn thing. I put a round into the ground some 10ft in front of me, fortunately the pig made a left turn and went running out of the tails. I would not have had a chance to chamber a second round before he would have got me. This has happened to a few hunters in SE Sask, and many now carry something with a quicker reload ability. These are easily available in rifle form for under 500$, just verify the firing pin recall. Or anything similar in a Remington.

As a side note, when the pic went running over the hill, I had just chambered a round ready to shoot, when the 4x4 buck we had been following into the tails popped up some 10 yards away and started to run. Got him in the neck. But I was still rattled by that pig.

I will keep that in mind Brad, I think I am down to one of three rifles from them because I didn't see anything I liked at the gun show

I am trying to arrange a deal for another rifle atm that basically spits in the face of this thread though.

Yeah I look at their site quite a lot. I bet I could spend a couple of thousand dollars pretty quickly on it.

Ironic perhaps... but the bubble hotel does confuse things...

Might have narrowed down Africa a little... but being "Canadian" is just about as diffuse.
