What optics for 257 bee??

Since my current sheep gun is my 54cal cap and ball with a 32 inch barrel I'm sure the 28 inch tube on a #1 won't be a issue to pack up the mountain.
Liking the 4.5-14 Leupold
But does anyone have a Swarovski z3?
How does it stack up for $300 more

I have a Z3 3-10x42. It's clearer than the VX3 to my eyes, but the Z3 line maxes out 4-12x50 if that matters. If I was looking for a higher magnification scope in Swarovski, I'd go to the Z5 line and look at the 3.5-18x44. I've had a Z5 5-25x52 and it was a very nice scope, but now we're talking $2K or so.
There are no flies on the Leupold VX3 4.5-14.

I have a Z3 3-10 x 40 Swarovski with the brx reticle - its a Very FINE reticle for sure -scope is Clear as a bell and light - i like it ! I also have a Vortex 4-16 HST on my 257 WBee and i like that one too ! RJ

Since I leave most of my fixed power scopes on 6x most of the time, or use a fixed 6, I would be looking at a 4-XX or 6-XX at a minimum for the BEE.

Clear glass, solid adjustments, fine reticle, target turrets or a very good drop style reticle. Pick your poison of the many many options offered by many many manufacturers.

A Ruger #1 always is a lot shorter than any bolt with the same length barrel, and I use to pack a 29" barrel long action bolt into the mountains, so that Ruger would be a sweet rifle.

I like the 4-16 range my self. Walking in thicker bush leave it on 4x.Counting points and reaching out at the range 16x. Reticle and glass your choice and budget.

I used a #1 with a 28" barrel in 7mm-300 Wby and packed it all over sheep and goat rocks. It was actually shorter than a 24" barreled Rem 700 in 7mmRM. As far as glass goes on a true hunting rifle I have never found a need for more than 10X so my choice would be a 3.5-10 Vari X III.

Here's some pics of my 7mm-300 Wby, and as I recall it wore a 3.5-10 Vari X III. They were just out and it was my first Vari X III

Great pictures as always Douglas, Thanks for sharing with us.
That's a beautiful Ram, may I ask how many years ago as Douglas has a lot less grey hairs ??
Pretty good heads on the Caribou also..

I have shot animals and far with a fixed 4 and fixed 6 Leupolds. never did like variables except on my varmint rifle over bait in very early light.
On my kid's new 257 however we put my 4-14X Leupold on it becuse that's wha was free at the tme.
He'll change it out for hunting season next fall.
