What Optics for an AR-15

For a red dot style you have the AimPoint and the EoTech which are good for up to 100/200 yards depending on who you talk to.

If your looking longer than that you'll need something thats magnified like an ACOG or ELCAN but those are $1400+ The AimPoints and EoTechs will run you $400 to $500.

i am looking for AR optics myself, had my heart set on a spanky Trijicon ACOG w/ bac and all that, but seems that route is probably not an option, at least not a reasonable one due to the US gov.. so whats the next best thing?

Check with Milarm, they're the Canadian Importer for Trijicon. IMHO, the ACOG is the best all around optic for the AR15. :dancingbanana:

The ACOG isn't so great in short range/CQB, but for longer ranges is excellent. For fast target acquisition and the ability to reach out beyond 100M in a pinch, I'd have to give the EoTech the nod. If I had the cash right now, however, I'd have to go with the S&B Short Dot...maybe for Xmas! :)

i actually really like what i have seen of the ELCAN specterDR but the range hash marks seem really small and hard to find. anyone have real world opinions on this? As for the ACOG, how is it with 5.56 when calibrated for .223 ? I really like the ACOG reticles... but 1x-4x.....
