So if I'm looking to paint a gun black, what paint would be the most durable? I've used Dupli-color spray paint befor but it's still not the best. Any suggestions?

There are commercial moisture cure urethanes that I have found to be exceptionally tough. They are a solvent based paint, that uses moisture in the air to cure. (And if one drop of sweat accidentally lands in a gallon, it will set off the entire gallon of paint!!)

I just don't know where to get it in small quantities.

Catalyzed urethane enamels will work well. This is essentially what armacoat and duracoat are.

I've used epoxy primers with good results. Basically, professional grade paints will work the best. Cars are metal and their paint sticks pretty good.

I used that dupli-color 1200degree ceramic paint on a shotgun (bake on stuff) and had really good results with it. it seems really strong to me, and looks good....cheap too!. I had to take all of the racks out of the oven and prop it up so it sat on the back of the receiver with a metal drift to support the top of the barrel. Just barely fit.

You can use good ol' Krylon along with an adhesion promoter and good metal primer. Then finish with a good clearcoat.

For barrels, I would use VHT 1200 degree exhaust paint as the base/undercoat.....

Painted many a rifle with Krylon...never a complaint.....
