Have an M-305 on the way. Wondering what parts should be changed out for USGI parts. Is there anything that absolutely needs to get swapped out?

the simple answer is NO
except.... :D
1)many guys opt to replace the oprod spring and spring guide rod.... to usgi or NM versions.
2)swapping bolts out to usgi is not necessary but can be of benefit if you have a rifle with excessive headspace.
3) 9 out of 10 chinese stocks are too soft.... this is probably the most popular "mod" , switching to a usgi fiberglass stock or a walnut stock.
4) rear sights on norcs are hit and miss quality.... most guys switch out to a m1 garand rear sight or the more expensive usgi m14 rear sight.

But don't do anything until you have the rifle, have cleaned and inspected it carefully, and have tested it.

I agree, I have met many a norc m14s that shot straight and reliable right outta the box... most of em actually. Go out and enjoy your new rifle, see how she performs, then, if you feel you must..... wade through all the info in the battle rifle stickies, attend a clinic if one is in your area, get hungry and/or Katana's DVD and then.... think about mods. The sky is the limit with these rifles..... beware the addiction hehehe

you may find that your rifle meets your expectations "right outta the box" and needs nothing but good care and the occasional tweaking..... oh and likes to be fed good ammo :D :D

Good right out of the box. The only thing I ever swaped on mine was the flash hider so I could have one with the Bayo lug

If you get one of the chu wood stocks that are really soft, after awhile the receiver will fit rather loosely because of wood compression. Most people go to a USGI fiberglass stock because of that reason. You can delay this compression by storing the rifle without the trigger group locked into place. You just release the trigger guard and store it like that.

Aside from this issue, there is nothing that 'absolutely' needs to be replaced.

Yes, it's very good out of the box. I've had mine for 4 years now with ZERO problems. I've changed out the factory spring guide & recoil sping and replaced it with a Badger Ordnance "MATCH" spring guide and WOLFS Spring extra pressure recoil spring. Also installed a recoil buffer from Buffer Technologies, and a KICK-ASS synthetic CADPAT stock

Get yourself some good gun-grease too :)

Your #### WILL fall off if you listen to all the guys who tell you to swap out everything under the sun!!! It is from the price of some of the mods some people do. Go with the Hungry welfare mods and you too will be addicted to the drug I call "Norc" Get your hind end out to one of Hungry's clinics or to one of the support group meetings and your #### will be safe.

Mine is still there, Thanks Hungry!!!!

I have had my norc for years and haven't changed any parts at all. just put it in a us gi fiberglass stock. it has fired 1000's of round of norinco 308, been left in the rain on the boat and it still comes back for more. before new gun restrictions, the gun it replaced was a trw m14 doing this. so you can see, the norc stands up. everyone is right, there are some "small"things you can do to make them work better.

with one of my absolutely stock Norc rifles, I shot a sun-moa group at 100 YDS with 168 Gr HPBT ammo.

Of course, I imedaiately started to improve it by adding all sorts of things it didn't really need.

Now it shoots worse,
AND
I've noticed my equipment is getting shorter ....
