What percentage have handled an AK?

I have one of the Chinese 84-S's in 5.56.

*shrug*

Just another rifle to me. A bit crude, but solid. I sold off the SKS's I've owned, and kept this rifle. I enjoyed shooting it when I could. It was accurate enough.

All that said, it's a commercial copy of the real AK, so take it with a grain of salt.

I really liked the AK-74's. Significantly more accurate (and fun to shoot)than the 7.62 ones from my limited experience.

I too had a blonde Hungarian (commercial) AK. It shot 2 moa with norinco ammo, and 4-5 moa with other types. I changed the wood (to laminated)to make it look like a Soviet model, and accuracy went South with ALL ammo types.:(

I've also owned Galils in both calibres. The most accurate of AK variants by far.

I've shot the Russian ones, Chinese and Albanian variants. I liked the quality of the russian the best, also accuracy was marginally better considering these weren't made for sniping ,but rather spraying. Nice kick, sometimes hard to control in FA but fun to shoot nontheless .

I shot a Romanian AK-47 in the states. Thought it was pretty cool. It had a full wooden stock, looked like it had been around for a while. They're known for their legendary reliability, not fit/finish or being the most accurate. We just want to shoot them because we can't have them here. A few pics from Oct/10 in Detroit:

Most people say that the CZ858 is better. I held a CZ858 with a folding stock and was impressed. Only things I didn't like was the pistol grip (too small) and the laminated wood looks cheap.

I think the VZ.58 is actually a better rifle than the AK:

-More ergonomic, quieter selector lever
-Bolt hold-open
-Better accuracy

Nobody can dispute that the AK is a robust, dependable rifle, but their capabilities are limited compared with other designs having better human engineering, modularity, and ability to take optics.

I have heard that, and I love my CZ 858.

I have handled two AK's. A Galil and some eastern European AK not sure which country. Galil was pretty decent machining and looked quite nice. The other looked more like a tough rough hunk of metal. I was surprised at the weight compared to my VZ58. If we could own one I would probably buy a galil though I might buy a euro ak as well for a truck gun.

I like accurate rifles but the AK on full auto has made me smile (a lot). If I could own one (and shoot it), I might. How's that for an ambiguous response?

Seriously. Just watching that video earlier in this thread. I love AK's but from a legal stand point, what's the big deal. It goes boom like any other gun. Why all the animosity against it. ####ing anti's are so irrational...

Someone could just as well sharpen up a piece of sheet metal and kill more people with it than that asshat in Arizona.

I can guarantee he could have killed upwards of 20 people with a steak knife. Whenever someone would have fought back, stab stab. That is where CCW can save lives.

Shot the one in vegas at the gun store. I dont know why everyone says it uncontrollable in full auto. I have no problem controlling, it. Im a big fella though.....

and I would def own one if i could,

full auto+cheap surplus=fun

Who said uncontrollable ? It's hard to be accurate in full auto, and I doubt you were, never having shot it before. Big or small makes no difference if you don't know what to expect from a weapon. It's not a pie eating contest .Practice makes perfect.

I dont think it deserves all the hype it gets(with my very little experience on it). I would keep one in inventory in the safe though.
