What powder?

Hello

Finally ordered a reloading kit and am travelling next week so I will be able to pick up some powder etc. I will be reloading some .222 and .243 for the small deer we have locally. I plan to get a 7mm rem mag for larger game. I don't have a loading manual yet so I am looking for suggestions on which powder or powders I should start with.

If it matters the manual will be Nosler.

Take a look at the Hodgden Reloading site. It has load data like that in a manual. One tip is not to buy too much of any powders even if they are recommended for your bullet/cartridge. As you load test you will find that your rifles shoot better with some powders and bullets than others. When you find some sweet spots, you don't want to be saddled with lots of powder that you won't be using.

Good book I really enjoy my Nosler book. Well laid out. You can use the same powder for both calibers thats a good thing if you can find one powder that will work best in both rifles then you are ahead of the game. I would start looking for powders around the 4895 4064 4195 burn rates. I like to see what powder will give me the highest percentage rate for capacity in the cartridge. I have always had good luck with that. The Nosler book is great for that. FYI be careful when loading all rounds of course but the 222 is one of the cases that you can easily compress the load and to get the powder just in the case you have to tap the case as you put your powder in. Nosler manual is also on line for quick reference.
 
For my 222's I have had great results with either IMR 8208XBR or Ram Shot X-Terminator
You can find load data on most of the powder sites including the Ram Shot site
