I have 2 scopes one is 10X tactical mildot and the other is a 20 X tactical mildot I find that I get a lot of mirage with the 20X at over 300yrds ..What do the 1000 yrd shooters use .What would you use if you had the choice of these 2 scopes.Graham
Of the two I would use the 20x at 1000yds... I have a 16x (not a 20X) .. borrowed a friends 20x for a match and preferred it just slightly over my 16x. I would not use my 10x for target work....however remember that the 20x has a smaller field of view ... there are situations where finding the target quickly can be very critical - and 10x might be preferable..this usally doesn't occur on a range though... particularly at 1000 yds. Really a function of applications and tastes. I don't use much over 16X in the summer at LR. I dislike the mirage. However, I plink but have no issue keeping the crosshairs on a clay pigeon at 800yds. I have shot to 1000m at target as well as smallish rocks and had no problem even with a 10X.
I find that quality of optics is more important then magnification at LR. Plus I don't like the affect of mirage on my image. I find better glass can reduce the affects of mirage as well.
