What precision rifle would you pick for 308 win?

For something that isn't a 700 action and will shoot, how about Steyr. The SSG 69 was "the" sniper rifle in the 80's and 90's. 24" hammer forged barrel, double set triggers. It will shoot 1/2 MOA easy, all day, every day, if you do your part. They also do the Tactical Elite, which is kind of like the scout, but with a 22" heavy barrel.

The saying goes that Steyr doesn't build rifles to shoot 1 MOA, or even 1/2 MOA - they build them to shoot 0 MOA. Can't say that's even possible, but they sure do come close.

Hot damn. That's a sweet rig. Tikka with the 70 degree throw, smooth as glass. I don't get why people advocate pgw so much. I never found anything to like about them. Also that Ross guy keeps sending me invoice for stuff I didn't buy from him. One piece of ancillery kit bought and paid in full and suddenly you want to send me invoices for the next 3 year? Yeah right.

Also, please continue to tease with suppressors. Maybe our law making overlords will come off their high horses and actually do what the people tell them instead of the other way around in allowing basic hearing protection.

Thanks,
we are lucky that we can use suppressors and I am even allowed to build my own which I have done in the past. The suppressor in the pic is a Roedale ultra light which I got as a prototype about 8 years ago, only weighs 175 grams, 7" long, muzzle mounted and quite effective. Certainly saves your and your dogs hearing. What I can't understand is the prices of suppressors in the US, they seem very expensive. We pay around 300-400 Euro for a very good Hausken or similar Suppressor. 22lr 30-60 Euro.

BTW. the rifle in the pic also had the 3 pos. ASH safety. Nice feature. https://buema-hochwang.de/Tikka-T3-Schlagbolzensicherung-links

Go with Canadian made PGWDTI Coyote. I have a .260 Rem Coyote in the folding chassis and love it.

I also have a Rem 700 in a Cadex Lite Strike chassis and I prefer the PGWDTI folding chassis over the Cadex. The folding mechanism does not lock up nearly as tight at the PGW chassis......even after adjusting the tension screw there is still some wobble in the Cadex folder.

But in all honesty, the top picks on the list are all very good rifles........comes down to a matter of preference and what you want to do with the rifle.

Honestly forgot Steyr. I trained with a sniper who used a SSG-04. It was damn accurate. Another bargain if you can find one.

I posted this exact same post in the American forums just to see what two countries would say and its kinda neat tbh.. A lot of Canadians love cadex and PGW stuff.. americans seem to love the TRG-22 and Accuracy international. I don't blame em on AI stuff cause they are amazing guns. But after shooting a AI compared to my savage 10 ba it makes my bolt feel like crap! recoils smoother, bolt lift is like 90% easier, and the ergonomics of shooting the gun just feels more natural.. I would love to shoot a pgw or a cadex or even a trg22 just to compare but i don't know anyone with these rifles that live in Manitoba lol. all my friends shoot cheap guns, axis, reamington700s

TRGs are great guns but are IMO behind the times now. The LOP/Cheek are only adjustable with spacers (unless you get the super fancy and crazy expensive new chassis). If you can find a used one on the EE for a good price they may be worth it. Good prone gun - don't bother unless you also get the TRG bipod.

AIs are hard to beat. My old one is on the EE right now and would recommend them to anyone if they find them comfortable.

PGWs are nice as you can stick any trigger you want in there. Good action, have the option of stock or chassis (used to at least).

I have not shot a cadex rifle but their chassis are well made. Their "styling" is not to my taste but that does not really matter. I am sure they are shooters.

Barret - pffftt - seen a couple, seem not bad but not really enough support up here. Their plastic bolt shroud dealy thing seems dumb.

Tikka - not really in the same league as the others but I bet it will shoot just as good as any other gun on the list here. You pay a lot for the chassis though. I would just get a Tikka Varmint and throw it in the chassis of your chose.

Custom - I shoot a custom now.

You really need to get behind as many as you can. It is hard with the high end stuff but they are around.

Wolverine days at wolverine would have been good to go to.

Just to mention that on SH they do have a really big hard on for AI stuff.

They are great guns but I do feel like that website has a bias for AIs.

To me, Custom is the way to go if you can afford it, and you have a pretty decent idea of what you want (ie: you've had a chance to try or handle different stocks and actions).

A custom can be built to pretty much exactly what you want (stock, barrel, weight, length, action, etc.), whereas any of the high end factory rifles you're at the mercy of their specific parts. If you like them, great. If not, it can be tricky to change stuff out.
