what press do you use?

Lee Classic Cast for rifle, because it was a good price and it works just fine for my needs.
Lyman TMAG 2 turret press for pistol and plinking 223. Got it also on a good deal as my first kit. I like that I can easily swap turrets between different calibers.

Rockchucker
Hornady Pro-Jector (progressive press, pre-LNL)

Reason: Found them used at decent prices.
I try to get as much as possible out of my limited shooting budget and prefer used quality brand items over new lower end products for the same $$.

Lyman All American turret press for all operations on handgun and .223 loads and a Rockchucker for all larger caliber sizing when I need more leverage...Then I use the All American for all priming and bullet seating of those larger cases...Can't beat the sensitive feel of the old All American.

35yr old RCBS RockChucker(RCII) handed down from my dad, still functions like new.
New RockChucker Supreme (RCIV), had a lot of play and slop in it when I bought it. Nothing some 1mm metal spacers and ripple washers couldn't fix, but was kind of dissapointed by that. Works beautifully now and really like it.
Both presses have been retrofitted with Hornady L&L die bushing conversion kits, which have been really nice.

Dillon 550b

I bought the 550b as my first press for a few reasons. I’m mostly a pistol shooter so wanted a higher production rate than a single stage or turret was going to provide. Being new to loading I wanted a machine that was simple to understand and versatile, while maintaining decent speed. I shoot several calibres, a few competitively, so wanted to be able to set-up certain calibres and easily swap them on and off without messing about with settings.

The 550b allowed me to do all of these things, has a stellar reputation, excellent customer support, and fit my budget. Would I recommend it to others? Depends. Was it right for me? Yes, both when I bought it and presently.

RCBS JR2 and a Dillon 550C.

I use the RCBS because it has worked flawlessly for close to 50 years and RCBS will happily ship you free replacement parts for anything that breaks, even if it was clearly your fault. I have tested their customer service on 2 sets of dies but nothing has gone wrong with the press in almost 50 years of regular use.

The Dillon is for cranking out 9mm and 223 bulk rounds. Its pretty expensive by the time you add a toolhead and conversion kit for every caliber but it saves loads of time.

Lyman Orange Crusher single stage 30+years .308's into .234, 3006's into 8x57 .
Only one complaint, dropped it on my finger moving it one day. 😩💦

Dillon 550B. I bought this as my first press 5 years ago. It’s a progressive press without auto indexing which is nice when you’re first learning how to reload. It’s a really nice machine and you can’t beat the lifetime warranty!

Dillon 1050, 650 and an RCBS single out of the "supreme" kit. I chose Dillon because of their excellent reputation. I chose the RCBS because the supreme kit is a great start for beginners. If my recent foray into precision shooting holds my interest I will be buying a Redding single stage.

so, any thoughts on why there's a lack of love for Lyman? they've been around for ages, so I would have thought they'd have similar market penetration like Lee, but no, literally nothing it seems?

Mr. Friendly, there were a few Lyman users but, only a few. Price point vs comparative brands and availability is my guess why we don't see much of Lyman.

I started with a Lee single stage classic press. Loved it, sold it as I had a Hornady single stage fall in my lap at a great price. One to two years out I expect to have a hornady LNL AP or Dillion 650. Not quite sold on reputation only of Dillion but seem to be a great brand.

did you find the Hornady to be better than the Lee? what made you like it more?
