What press next?

So,

Around a year ago I got a Lee Classic Turret press, and it's done well for me.

However, as I start shooting more, and shooting different rounds, I've found that it's quite slow and tedious, and a real pain to load .223 on.

So what I'm looking for is something that will be easier and faster to use, support a range of pistol and rifle calibres, have a built in powder measure/dispenser (I don't want to be measuring each load on scales) and ideally remove military primer crimps too.

From doing a little looking around, the Dillon 1050 looks like everything I dream of, except for it's incredibly high price tag.

Is there something in between that will give me what I need without requiring a second mortgage?

I saw your post, went into my gun room, and loaded just under 350 rounds of .223 on my Dillon 1050 before I came back and posted this.

I had a Lee Classic Cast Turret press before the 1050, I used it, liked it, and learned on it, but once I decided I needed more speed, I went for the 1050 for sheer volume.


That said, you can't go too wrong with a 550 or a 650, but just for goodness sakes get somthing that has a casefeeder and the option to add a bullet feeder later down the road. Your hands will thank you forever.


Here is mine loading the 30-06 from a video I took last year. It loads it so easy that you would never know that you are reloading such a big cartridge in a progressive press. .223 is even easier.

That's truly a thing of beauty....maybe I'll hold out for the 1050.

My only concern is that I live in an apartment, and don't have a workshop. Right now, my Lee is mounted on the end of my computer desk, and since it's pretty easy to take the turret and powder dispenser off, it's fairly unobtrusive. I don't know if I need a massive machine sat in my office all the time :)

I guess the next question is who's a good Canadian dealer of Dillon products? I guess I should price out the 1050 for my current calibres (223, 308, and 45ACP).

Now I just need to sell my money pit H&K rifle to raise some funds, and I'll be good to go :)

Guess I could sell all my Lee gear to raise some funds too.
