What primer pocket swage

How many cases do you plan to do at a time?

If doing large batches the Dillon super swager would be my first choice.

For small batches the Hornady primer pocket reamer works well.

With the Dillon type swager just remember the flash hole web thickness will effect the results.

Example if you setup for Federal case below and the did one with a thicker flash hole web you might over enlarge the primer pocket. Meaning you will need to adjust the swager for different brands of brass. With the hand reamers it makes no difference which brand of case is being reamed. The big difference between a swage and a reamer is sore fingers with larger batches.

I've had good success with the Hornady single stage primer pocket swage tool. It's easy to adjust and repeatable. You have to be careful not to over do it. A full swage will leave a nice radius at the edge of the primer pocket. I only swage as much as required to properly seat a primer. A full swage isn't always required.

Yes buy a Dillon 1050......or the super swage ...I bought one and don’t regret it one bit .....big deal sort your brass first by head stamp and then go to town ....awsome tool

I use the RCBS swager and it has worked just fine on every brand and type of brass that I've found. It is also super handy for just tuning up non-crimped cases to make the pockets more consistent.

What do you mean by "Swaging" or are you talking about "Reaming" a primer pocket?

Swaging means deforming the primer pocket crimp to make the pocket just large enough to seat a primer properly. It's superior to reaming because no material is removed. Swaging also works the brass a little, adding some stiffness to the primer pocket area. A swaged primer pocket should hold it's size longer than a reamed one. In theory anyway.

I have the rcbs unit. I have only done 223 on it but its fast enough for my volume. I thought about the dillon but stumbled on this in a local shop. I did manage to bend the small rod that the brass slides onto so i will have to give rcbs a call about that

I have bent a number of RCBS anvil rods. The Dillon is a superior product, although more expensive.

Yeah i wasn't paying attention and caught the lip of a case. I will most likely upgrade to the dillon. I have amassed a large amount of camdex processed brass so hopefully my crimp removal days are limited

I have an RCBS swaging tool but I am not sure if I like it that much. I tried to use it on my Lee classic cast iron single stage for 9mm milspec cases but had a hard time figuring out the right amount of pressure to apply. Too much downwards pressure on the handle would result in too much effort to "unstick" the brass from the swager on the upwards motion. And this would also result in an over sized primer pocket in some cases so large that the primer would not stay in the pocket and fall out during subsequent reloading on Dillon 550. Too little pressure and the primers get squashed by Dillon. Does anyone have similar experience with RCBS swaging unit?
