Just wondering, but how many Provinces make hunters wear blaze orange at some part of the year? We never have to wear it here in NF but when I was in NB I had to wear it durring Deer season.

Sposed to wear blaze orange for hunting big game in Ontario during the rifle season. They also suggest you continually jump up and down and blow a whistle to avoid being shot by other hunters.

If some one saw me hunting and then started continually jumping up and down and blowing a whistle, I'd be INCLINED to shoot them:D

Here in NB, it's a solid "colour" orange vest and hat minimum. Orange camo doesn't cut it here.

I use it! I like it! ............. In a perfect world it wouldn't be needed.

Here in British Columbia we don't have to wear blaze orange. This is as close to wearing red as I go, my son in the picture. Still, I was sitting on a ridge and I had a guy walk out and put a gun up on me. The idiot may have been just looking but it is not a nice feeling to have a gun pointed at you.

have to wear orange, red, yellow or white or any combonation of the 4. But we have to wear a hat or toque in any of the colors but white. white is deadly when there is snow on the ground. best snow camo.

But not for birdies!:)

Funny how some folks absolutely detest wearing orange, but have no problem at all wearing a helmet on their ATC/motorcycle or seat belts in their car.

I had the bush cops wait me out here in N.S. cause they saw my hunter orange on the back seat of the car. When I poped out of the woods after dark, the lights were flashing, as they cut me off walking down the road to the car.
I was gonna be charged for not wearing HO, well I just told 'em sorry folks I was hunting Coyotes, not deer, not req'd. They were pissed, yes you were, you got a deer licence right, yes I do, LOL. They held me for over an hour, while they scanned over a very heavy manual. We are gonna take your bow, and charge you $85 , not likely dude. Finally they said give us a call and we will decide if we will charge you or not:confused: Sure , no problem:rolleyes:
What idiots. Anyway they changed the law the following year. Now gotta wear orange when walking to the hunting area, if hunting coyotes. This was during the early season for deer, no guns allowed.

While I think that seat belts and helmets are excellent ideas, and I buckle up all the time, I dont' think it shoudl be a LAW.

We don't have orange laws in BC, and probably never will. It came up again a few years ago...BC Hunters just laughed and turned it down.:)

It may be a good safety practice in some areas, but I do not know.

While I am against compulsory helmet and seatbelt use,I will concede that according to statistics they do reduce injuries. On the other hand, since Alberta scrapped the hunter orange regulations the number of hunters being shot accidently has not increased,in fact it has decreased.

That's like saying seat belts and helmets are a good idea in BC, but not in Sask. or somewhere else.

I can understand why orange would be less useful out west, as the style of hunting is ALOT different than here in the East, but a good idea is just that, a good idea, and I don't trust the people around me.

Orange gives me a way better chance of being ID'd as another hunter, not a game animal.

I'm sure the numbers of shootings have dropped, but I'm equally sure the number of hunters in the field every year has dropped at the same time.

According to statistics, the number of bird hunters has dropped dramatically but that is not the case with the numbers of big game hunters. In fact looking at my draw booklets from several years, the number of people taking part in the big game draws has increased significantly.
