What qualifies as a range commando???

I guess I am a 'range commando'. One of the fellas called me a 'gear queer' and I almost punched him out!

Problem is I got more damned guns than I know what to do with and it is getting stupid. I now have two safes, both full and a trip to the range is at least a half day long. Hauling ammo, spotting scopes and targets and all the range crap is getting tougher and tougher. Cripes, it takes a half hour to get all that crap into the truck!

I am beginning to think a return to the good old days of having only a few guns might be in order.

I so remember taking every piece of kit I had to the range, pelican cases galore and a dozen calibers...all pre-children ofcourse.

bwahahahahaha. wheres bigdotglock when i need him. does this sound like gallager or what.

You beat me to it! All posed out in woodland camo pants tucked into his boots, with a sad attempt at a scowl on his face.

Ever notice how many of his profile pics on FB feature him posing with your(formerly my) 870?

EDIT TO ADD: Damn it I just realized, if I built a shotgun that's the envy of range commandos and Gallen bought said shotgun...we must be some top shelf range commandos. LOL

The difference is Cowboy action shooters know they are engaged in a game with a huge social aspect to it, they are also (the ones I have met) of exceptional demeanor. We seem to have more than our fair share of 500lb Grumpy Snipers come Socom Operators who have a hard time differentiation fact from fiction...just sayin'...How come we don't have a fitness section on this board?.

Indeed. I did CAS for a good ten years. Totally different approach by most folks in that discipline. It's all about the spirit of the game, historical correctness (for those inclined), and all out good times. I can't say that for a good number of "tactical shooters" I have met.

+1 on the Grumpy Socom type wannabe's...buying cool guy gear, taking a class once every three years(but doing nothing to maintain the skills taught), doing the odd "tactical shoot", etc, isn't going to put you at the top of your game.

Dedication to skill maintenance and skill development, as well as physical and mental conditioning, instead of relying on gadgets and gear will take you a lot farther down the road AWAY from the range commando image. Stand two guys beside each other, each outfitted the same and it usually only takes a minute or two to reveal the range commando from the quiet professional. But then again, being a quiet professional isn't for everyone.;)

Love the above videos. I don't think its necessary to only do these types of workouts, but I do think they are an awesome idea.

Even for the simple stuff at home, I grab the beast of an AR10 I have (21" heavy barrel) and do my push up/pull up/sit ups/dips with it in hand or slung.

That's awesome...CrossFit shooting!!!!!!!!!! I so want to employ that...

I refuse to allow reason to creep in and destroy a perfectly retarded thread...

That guy is freakishly pale.

CGN hawaiin shirts? :D

Sounds like fun! :)

The elitism and condescension of some in this thread is funny. What does it matter what people shoot or own? Some of us buy tons of gear because we are worried that tommorow we might not be able to buy it at all. I personally have a nice set of armour both 3A Balcs and Ceradyne 4 ceramic plates. I bought it not because I think the apocalypse might happen next Tuesday, more so out of concern that its probably inevitable that some socialist scumbag will try and ban it as only needed by police and military.

But hey if you want to stare at another guys ass who has nice shiny new camo...have at it

Hey, you have a good reason to have all that gear (you're a Mod in the OT, after all...:p)........is any of it "flame"-resistant? ;)

Live and let live. Be yourself. There's nothing wrong with Oakley boots....in fact if you don't have a pair of Oakley boots then perhaps something is wrong! aheh! :p

I got issued about 4 sets of Oakley boots in Iraq, but found they where not very comfrotable for my foot
- their Flak Low shoe was very comfortable, but they discontinued them.

Wearing my Oakley shoes in my Range Commando gear ;)

Honestly as long as people are enjoying themselves safetly with their firearms, who cares. Wear neon pink for all I care - just get out and shoot.
