What R U huntin with? 2011 Bear Hunt

I never get tired of seeing that beautiful rifle.

:)Thanks. There 'may' be a slight change of plans to help fill the deep freeze, remembering that my lovely better half has minimal interest in Bear meat. I went and visited the guy that cuts my wild game and to pick up some specialty pork sausages he makes up. A get together for a early season search for a pepperoni Black Bear may not be totally out of the question for me. My 71 and its 200gr Silvertips 'may' get an intro to Vancouver Island Black Bear after all:D.

I'm not going for bear this spring, but the Kimber in .338 Win Mag seemed to work on a grizzly last fall.

That same .338, a .375 and .458 will keep me hunting from next week to July.

Leeper has finished my custom 700 Remington, chambered in the very fine 308 Norma Magnum. I may have to shoot a spring bear, just to break the "ice" lol. Eagleye.

Fall hunt for Ontario bear will be my mossberg 535 with a rifled slug barrel and 4x fixed scope. First time hunting them so I decided not to use my single shot 30-06 CVA Apex. Call me chicken but I prefer a second follow up shot with a pump. Howevers guys use bows with them. Prefer the pump though.

I will be in Northern Ontario for part of the Bear season, I will be carrying a tag but not actively pursuing them, If I shoot one it will be with whatever is close at hand. Probably a shotgun or .375 Win camp rifle.

Well come fall I'm hoping my spot pulls through, and then it will be either the PSE firestorm lite with a nice 2blade rage on the front. Depending on how how long i can spend out there might have to use the slug gun.

Glad to see I'm not the only one hunting with a 12ga. 600 grain brenneke gold 3" mags knock em down. I'm thinking it would be fun to take one with a 500sw handi rifle but I'm haven trouble sourcing good hunting bullets factory loaded

24" barreled 50 Cal mag Gonic Arms muzzle loader barrel for my T/C Contender carbine loaded with 430gr Gonic slugs.

22" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 45-70 loaded with 325gr Hornady FTX @ 1850fps

XCR-L in 6.8 SPC loaded with 95gr TTSX @ 2825fps

21" barreled Rem 700 LSS in 375RUM loaded with 350gr TSX @ 2450fps

I'll probably have a few other rifles along as well...

Ruger left hand Alaskan in .375 Ruger or my new Ruger No.1 in .303 British. Both nice handling short rifles that will kill any Black bear here on the rock with no problems. Just a few more weeks!!!!

This is the first spring I am considering shooting a bear, it will be a 140 partition from a 6.5x55, a 160 grand slam froma 7mm rem mag or a 480 hard cast from a 45-70.

If I am out looking for turkey when I see one, it will be a federal 1 1/4 oz HP rifled slug at 1600 or an 18 pellet 3.5" OO buck because I happen to have a couple boxes of those.

Probably prefer the 6.5 though

I put a euro 30 1.25-4 on my 375 Ruger Alaskan, but have yet to sight it in. It shot the 260 Accubond well with the 3-9, so I will likely run that bullet in it.

I might also use my freshly revamped, 20" barreled, M700 458 Win Mag, and 500 gr SP loads, unless I can work up a decent 300 gr load in time.

For the record, I know I do not need nearly this much firepower, but I find that I am enjoying the boomers more and more.

I could also load up some TSX for my 6.5-06, but I am letting my wife do all the killing with that bore diameter in her Model Seven in 260 Rem

Could be my 7x57, 30-30, 270, 30-06, or 300 Win. mag.

Depends how I feel that morning.

I'm going to be using my new Ruger No.1 RSI in 243 shooting Hornady Superformace CMX 80gr. You place it right and they react like they been hit by lightning!

For me it is going to be my new to myself BLR in .308. Just got the scope mounted and now some range time... been a long time with out a good lever!
Good luck to all this spring!
