what range do you sight for?

So why not zero for 200 if that's where you want to end up?

What's the difference? Is there magical tree fairies where you hunt that place markers telling you which tree is exactly 200 yards away?

This has worked well for me, as I usually set paper at 100 yards, and hit silhouettes at the longer ranges. Whether or not my actual zero is bang on 200 or not, I still know what my rifles will do when I need them to do it.

I ususally sight using the 'PBR' method; sighting such that the bullet is never higher than 4" above line of sight, giving me an MPBR that varies with caliber. For the 7mm08, this means a ~+3.5" zero at 100 yards, zero at ~250 and -4 at a little over 300

I usually sight in for about 2.5" high @ 100 yards, which puts the actual zero at about 250 - 270 yards, depending on which rifle.

Actually, you're not too far off...

at 20 yards, the bullet is still rising with respect to the sight picture (the scope is ~2" above the bore, after all).

Zeroed at 20 yards, a 7mm Mag would continue climbing to a maximum of about 11" at 250 yards, and be zeroed again on the way back down a little past 400 yards

I zero @ 200 yards for my hunting set up, but I am spending A LOT of rangetime (and ammo) getting aquinted with my laser rangerfinder and determining presets with the Target turrets for the varmint rig past 200 yards.
