Looking to see what the consensus is and why.

Mine were all sighted in at 100yrds initially, but after looking at a few trajectory charts, I realized that after 100yrds, the projectile had no where to go but down.

So now am thinking of a 50/200yrd zero, which at least would give me 2 points where the projectile would impact where I was aiming, plus be only a bit off at 100.

I read that the USMC uses a 300yrd zero, which groups more consistently in the "A" zone on a target. Don't know how true that is, or even how it can be done at a range that isn't that long.

So what's the CGN consensus?

Depends on your specific needs. My ar15 gets cqb work typically and I want the v bulls on the targets. I zero at 35 yards. If shtf scenarios I would do a 50/200 zero

Thanks. I should have specified I use them for 3 gun a lot, the occasional CQB, and a bit of hog hunting (in the US); but to be honest, I don't attempt a shot on a hog if 100yrds or more.

Have 4 ARs. My 10.5" is zeroed at 25 meters. The 16" is zeroed at 100 meters with an ACOG. The 308AR is zeroed at 100m with a 3.5-21x scope (a precision AR). My 300 blk (work in progress) will be zeroed at 100m with EOTech XPS 2-2 (second dot works at closer ranges).

Each AR has a different purpose, and is thus zeroed with that in mind. The ACOG scoped AR is the workhorse and with the BDC, is zeroed from 15-400 meters

What would one sight a 1-4 scope in for? Is the 50/200 still relevant then?

Red dot, irons, 1-4 I always do 50 meters on an ar. The height over bore with a 50 meter zero will put your rounds into the "target zone" of a humanoid type target regardless of whether your at 5 yards or 250 yards. And by "target zone" I mean 8" upper target area

Out of curiosity, if you only have a 100 yard range, how much higher or lower do you sight in the POI to have it zeroed for 100 m??? (this is for ACOG)
