Start at 15 and then back to 25 yards. and someone said in another post it's possible to make a head shot with a Beretta 92F at 50 yards ? they would be my hero . that would take a absolute ton of practice. and in a tense situation you had better be named dead eye to make a shot like that. the police are armed with AR15 rifles and shotguns in most states . buddy would have to be a complete moron to go after a guy with an AK with a 9mm unless that's all he had . I've heard of guys shooting 45 pistols at 50 yards at our range but I couldn't be bothered to even try . and I've been shooting for over 35 years at a range . happy shooting on the Rock . stay away from the Screech before you go . LOL .
I had a Beretta 92F in the late 1980's, probably '88 and '89 just before moving to Mexico. I also used a couple down there shooting at 100 yard plates. It's an accurate enough gun in single action. My own Beretta 92fs is quite accurate also. This 5-shot group was fired from the bench at the Oliver range at 25 yards using my own reload of an MP-Molds 135 grain RNFP bullet powdercoated with Eastwood Ford Light Blue over 4.1 grains of WW231. It is not a "Wow!" group but good enough for what I want to do. This is on a standard PPC Target Center patch.
Now, this 5-shot group was shot one-handed "Bullseye Style" standing immediately afterwards at 25-yards taking my own sweet time. I was quite proud of it. It showed me that the Beretta can perform. My SA trigger is quite nice, I installed the M*Carbo Beretta 92fs Spring Kit that I got off of Calgary Shooting Center and my SA pull is just a tad under 3.0 pounds and crisp. This was the only group I tried shooting Bullseye style, it was so pleasing I just moved on from here.
So then I moved to 50. This is the same size of PPC center, and I fired again "over the bench". 10 shots this time, and a score of 94/100. I think I gave myself no time limit to do the 10 shots. If we call the white zone a human face then 5 of the shots were a done-deal. Another 2 of the shots would have caused a potential neck wound and/or a scalp would or helmet-rim hit. 2 other shots might have shaved off an ear or a lobe. Only one shot would almost certainly missed. That's fine.
I realize this is "perfect day" shooting without being fired upon myself, but taking the Sherriff's Deputy position, I would also not have fired unless the man with the AK was not looking at me and not aiming to engage me. Even then, I might not fire -- or maybe I would. I know the gun could make the shot, and I could make the shot -- and the instant fame a good hit would bring me would be something to consider. A concrete parking stantion is a significant barrier, and 50 yards is probably beyond hand grenade range: so maybe. I realize some people would certainly be panicky but the few times I have been shot close to, I had good cover and was not particularly frightened. It's always hard to say for sure, but I think I would be fine. If I found I was not, I could simply choose not to engage -- as did the Deputy. But the gun is certainly capable of it. I never tried exactly this type of group with my Beretta 92F back 35 years ago, but I think it would have been fine with any decent ammo.
My 5-inch 1911 back in San Miguel might have grouped just a little better that these examples -- or maybe not. The Beretta impressed me for a simple off-the-rack service gun with a spring kit installed. I dumped a small fortune into my SMAGTO 1911 -- the Beretta I picked up on a trade and installed a spring kit. One of those things that make you go "Hmmmmmm". It's certainly solid enough performance for me, personally. Dedicated PPC shooters will snicker, perhaps. Or maybe not.
