What range to sight in .22LR?

Just got my Marlin 795 stainless steel beauty with a Bushnell Trophy XLT 1.75-4x32 scope. Not the best scope, but a step above the Banners. I was going to go with a Banner for $80, but when I factored in the much better lens, and the included Butler Creek lens covers, It wasn't a hard choice to make for $120 during Lebarons sale this week.

To CGN'ers in the know, Bushnell did not advertise what the scope parallax was set at. I still took a risk and bought it because, in the description, it said "used for close range turkey and deer hunting with shotguns and slug guns." I hope Bushnell set the parallax for 50ft or 75ft for that reason. I emailed Bushnell to get a definitive answer, but if anyone has the same scope and knows, please chime in.

What range should I set it at to get a good balance between shooting close range and long range.
 
I go 100 yds with my CZ 452 Varmint. That way you are basically zero out to 100, and hold over further out.

I knew .22LR was flat out to a hundred yards, but I didnt think it was that flat to be able to sight in at 100 yards and still be on target 20 yards away. We are talking yards, not feet right?

And is it OK to use scope rings meant for air rifles? I've noticed that some of those unified mounts have a little screw at the end, I'm guessing that's for air rifles. If I took out that screw, would it still hold zero on a 3/8" dovetail (Marlin 795) without having to tap the receiver? Or would those Leupold Rifleman aluminum 3/8" dovetail rings do the trick for me (they're significantly cheaper too)?
 
Zeroing a .22at 100yrds seems a bit far (though makes sense if your going after gophers). 50yrds is generally fine though it really depends on far you plan to be shooting.

I was looking for a balance between 20 yards and 100 yards. Seems like most .22LR high velocity ballistics show the bullet to be in the highest position at 50 yards. So if I was going to set it for 50 yards, this means I would have to aim a little high for close range shots and a little higher for long range 100 yard shots. It looks like 50 yards does look like the sweet spot if you want to zero it once and leave it that way.
