Norinco Type 84 .223 AK. Look at the barrel, it's one of the 18.5" ones made for our commercial market before prohibition.

Correct. Dimensions of the magazine and lower handguard give it away. The gas block and tube are also slightly visible and distinct.

Looks like a Polytech .223 AK variant - they were widely available back in the early 1980s.

I watched a friend of mine put about 7 magazines through one and it seized up (must have warped the innards from the heat).

It just looks like an RPK - it's .223, so it's sort of scaled down slightly.
