Hello, I am in the market for a new bolt action rifle in 30-06 Springfield for hunting moose, deer and bear here in Ontario. I have owned enough rifles to know what I like and what fits me well. I am looking for something with a little better quality than your average big box store rifle, hopefully something of European decent. I will list my specs below and you tell me if this rifle was made by a German, Czech or Finish manufacturer. Thanks!
- 30-06 Springfield
- 22" to 22.5" barrel with or without open sights is fine. (I think 24" is too long for the type of wooded and tree stand hunts that I do.
- Walnut and blued steel is a must, classic look.
- Monte Carlo type stock is better, the American style stock does not fit me the greatest.
- I'm not partial to a floorplate or magazine but if magazine I like double stacked so it can hold 5 rounds and be loaded from the top.
- I'm also not partial to Mauser action vs push feed as log as its a good proven action i'm fine with it.
Yes I realize I have described a Remington 700 BDL to a T and I do really love them, they fit me great and work awesome. I was hoping to find something European with a little more class, heirloom quality and fit/finish. The only rifle I can think of that meets these specs is a SAKO M85 or M90 Hunter with open sights, and yes that rifle is an option id love to hear about some lesser known rifles. My budget is approx $2000 to $2500 MAX one the new or used gun market. Thanks!!!
