Hello, I am in the market for a new bolt action rifle in 30-06 Springfield for hunting moose, deer and bear here in Ontario. I have owned enough rifles to know what I like and what fits me well. I am looking for something with a little better quality than your average big box store rifle, hopefully something of European decent. I will list my specs below and you tell me if this rifle was made by a German, Czech or Finish manufacturer. Thanks!

- 30-06 Springfield
- 22" to 22.5" barrel with or without open sights is fine. (I think 24" is too long for the type of wooded and tree stand hunts that I do.
- Walnut and blued steel is a must, classic look.
- Monte Carlo type stock is better, the American style stock does not fit me the greatest.
- I'm not partial to a floorplate or magazine but if magazine I like double stacked so it can hold 5 rounds and be loaded from the top.
- I'm also not partial to Mauser action vs push feed as log as its a good proven action i'm fine with it.

Yes I realize I have described a Remington 700 BDL to a T and I do really love them, they fit me great and work awesome. I was hoping to find something European with a little more class, heirloom quality and fit/finish. The only rifle I can think of that meets these specs is a SAKO M85 or M90 Hunter with open sights, and yes that rifle is an option id love to hear about some lesser known rifles. My budget is approx $2000 to $2500 MAX one the new or used gun market. Thanks!!!

I am assuming you want a turn bolt and not a straight pull bolt.
Try a Heym SR20, a Sauer 101 or 202, Mauser M12, Voere HDF Titan, a Rosseler Titan 3 or 6, Haenel Jager 10, the various Sako's as you have identified, a Steyr CLII or an Anschutz 1782 (although it would have to be used to fit your price range).

I think Tiriaq summed it up best. Check out the known euro dealers from the site sponsor list and start googling. Even better, if you live somewhere next to a gun store that actually carries some options, it sure is nice to put your hands on it before buying. Gun pictures aren't the best medium to judge the feel of a gun (e.g., a Kimber 84 and M-S 1903 both looked pretty svelte to me in photos but in the hand the M-S 1903 disappears while the Kimber not so much).

Happy shopping.

Look at Husqvarna.
I have been looking at them for a little while, mainly the 1640 in 30-06 but it has a 24" barrel. I don't know much about the 1900 other than its a push feed action. I have looked at the Carl Gustaf and Husqvarna crown grades like the pic you posted just hard to find and often in poor condition.

My issue with the bulk surplus Husqvarna 1640 and 1900 is the overall condition of the rifles. Often you cant pick the rifle you are getting and you are at the mercy of what the sales worker picks. Id like to find something in fantastic overall condition. Thanks

Sauer 101 or 202 or Mauser M12 are out, I've owned a 101 briefly and this type of stock dimension with the straight American comb doesn't work.

Sako Bavarian, Anschutz higher-end CZ all come to mind.

If it was me though I’d buy a model 70 or a vintage Brno or Sako, even a Tikka 65. Hell, a Husqvarna 1600 would fit the bill and you’d have $2000 left for gas and beer.
