Woke up this morning and it was the Women`s 7.5km sprint. I`d like to know what gun they use for the target section of the race? All I could find with Google was that it was a lightweight 22cal. It has a sweet "straight back pull" for a bolt. Sweet little gun! Anyone happen to know?

Just jumped on wondering the same thing. They make it look pretty easy.

For distance Wiki says: "When shooting in the prone position the target diameter is 45 millimetres (1.8 in), when shooting in the standing position the target diameter is 115 millimetres (4.5 in)."

Pretty impressive when your hearts going a mile a minute. 45mm is just a bit larger than a golf ball.

Interested to see what the makes and models that come back on darcys question.

I saw the men's 10 km, I thought it was neat how the straight pull actions looked like they don't have springs, its just thumb pressure to close the bolt.

icedragonmx has a nice thread going on an Anschutz biathlon rifle he got from Nordic Marksman.

Those are some sweet pieces of engineering.

The action is very easy to open and close. You use you finger and thumb while rotating your wrist. The sights stay on target through the whole process. Wickedly good engineering that makes this possible, worth every $$$$ to have one :D Thanks for the comments on mine, if possible get one while you can! :D:D:D

We have a fleet in our family. My older daughter shoots a fortner junior in biathlon. My younger daughter has something cheaper in a target savage with a stock made by eastern sierra armory. I have the heaviest beast with a izhmash junior rifle. And that thing is large.

I handles the fortner 17HMR sporter at SHOTSHOW this past January, an i am not a ANNIE fan at all, but they make the sweetest straight pull ill tell yah!!
The slickest sholder operated repeater i have ever handled period, now there is an ANNIE i would be proud to have!

The fellows from Anshutz said it will be probably be available in 22lr in 3 years, due to the demand in Europe for the 17HMR as many countries do not allow small bore centre fire they told me?

Go Canada!

Dale Z!

Nordic marksman have em, only about $3500 plus sights that are quite a bit, so much for an Anscheutz rifle

Very interesting event IMO.
I have enough trouble keeping on target without having sprinted beforehand.

I'm guessing that the shooter, ammunition, and rifle are critical in that order but what do I know.

Just wondering why nobody has mentioned ammo is all.

I'd love to get 5 minutes of coaching and then shoot one of those even if it didn't fit me.
I'm OK with a bit of laughing. :D

Years ago only the men competed with a full bore military rifle sometimes in the caliber of their country. It must have been brutal to ski and shoot the heavy stuff. The new rifles are a work of art and the female competitors are also a work of art.
I remember the women in the Olympics were some hard cases.

I had an Anschutz biathlon rifle model 1403 for years, but a local guy talked me out of it. He probably only had it for a few weeks before he sold or traded it. It wasn't up to todays standards but I liked the little rifle. I hate to be talked out of something by someone who doesn't appreciate a gun, or how rare it is, or what I went through to get it. I won't deal with them anymore they just P*ss me off no sense of value.
