I dont necessarily want a 10/22 it just kept coming up as the best 22 rifle to buy, what would be better and more accurate and reliable? I'm not adverse to speding more money, I prefer quality over anything else.
I suppose the question of "budget" should be brought-up. In a nutshell, pretty much all "quality" 22s made today are bolt actions, not semis. There are exceptions like Browning, T/C etc. but since they're of no interest to me, I'm not up on what's still made. I think the Brownings are, but I never much cared for the look of them...so no really on my "radar", so to speak.
So, I've owned exactly 4 semis...but have shot several others. The ones I've owned are 1 Wichester, 1 Ruger 10/22 and 2 Marlin 795s. 1 Marlin 795 remains. Bone stock, save for a gunsmith-tweaked bolt and trigger. Since then, MCARBO spring kits have become available for these guns, a very nice improvement. If you went the 795 route with the spring kit, wanted a nicer stock too (=Boyd's) you'd still likely be in/around the $500 price point for a very accurate 22 semi. The iron sights on the 795 are cruddy, but I had scope plans anyway. In my experience, it's a pretty safe to expect this 795 will be more accurate than a 10/22 with so little $ invested.
In the $500-$600 range you're in CZ bolt action territory and unless you're set on a semi, I consider these to be the best 22s for the money. My #1 rifle is a 452 Varmint, but I recently bought an older BRNO (CZ) model 2E. An older 452 basically. Great guns, and better value for the $ than a Savage is these days. I know~I've had several of those.
My opinions anyway...
