Hi guys,

I am looking to buy a good pair of rubber boots (somewhere around $100) and was wondering if you guys could recommend a model. I intend to use them while upland and waterfowl hunting.

Does anyone have any experience with Muck Boots (Wetland model in particular)?

Thanks.

I picked up a pair of uninsulated Cabela's DuraTrax boots and am ery impressed with them. They were comfortable as old runners from the day I first tried them on and they were plenty warm enough for quadding on Banks Island in mid September with temperatures around 2 degrees. I had some light weight smartwool socks on inside them and would have been fine walking all day in them. If I was going to be out in the winter I'd opt for one of the insulated versions, but for what I was doing these were and are perfect. They'd be an excellent choice for a waterfowling boot though I'd prefer more support for a day of wandering after upland birds.

I picked up a pair of Irish Setter Goretex boot at a Gander Mountain store in the US for $89. I think the regular price was $99. I picked them up on our way up mosse hunting and thought I would try them the first day out. My old pair of well broken-in Goretex boots would be on stand-by, just in case the new ones caused blisters or needed breaking in. The new boots where so comfortable I never put the old boots on. I have always found rubber boots to be sloppy and lack ankle support.

I have a pair that have "Weather Guard" on the side and "Canadian" on the bottoms with a maple leaf. They are a soft rubber that does not freeze up hard and they are short so they do not splap the legs when I walk. There is a "nylon mesh" insole in the bottom. They have a good felt liner and are big enough I can wear a good wool sock inside. I wear them hunting in all but the really coldest of Alberta hunting weather. my feet do sweat in them eventually, esp. if I wear them in the vehicle any length of time. I dry the insides and liners out often. Occasionally I will change to a dry liner at midday of an all day hunt.
