What would be a good practical mount for this gun? It's not d&t yet, I'm partial to Weaver style bases but don't see any listed for these.

You're going to need a hybrid mount for that No 1 Mk lll. The Weaver TO-1 mount requires the charging bridge to be drilled and tapped along with 2 holes in the receiver ring.
You may need to adapt a side mount.

I'm thinking that is actually a No. 4 - perhaps a Parker Hale Custom? Since the rear "ears" for the rear sight are gone, you are looking at a side mount. I've used the Parker Hale A29 side mount, and a 93 (?) weaver flat base rail - drill the rail to match the #6 holes in the A29. Since 75% of the A29 top holes are stripped, I usually drill and tap them to #8x40 as a matter of course. Lets you use weaver style rings. PM me if you want one of mine - i believe I have one left. And, believe it or not, in the early 1970's I actually hand filed a piece of .100" angle iron and made my own side mount base for a #4. Last I heard that rifle and scope are still riding on a snowmobile in Alberta Rockies.

It looks like a custom no1 parker hale no1mkIII
id try and find a a27 or ba27 scope mount for it. Its made by parker hale and came factory on i though all custom no1's
My parker hale no1 custom came with ph sling, and a ph made in japan 5 round mag. As well as drilled and tapped for the ba27 mount.

Its a side mount, looks clean and works well.

Yep, I think you guys are correct - the grooves on the magazine look to be #1, not #4. Beg your pardon. Evanguy has the answer, although the Parker Hale top rail will only work with the Parker Hale rings.

^^ yes, sorry in forgot to add that. If you look for it try and find a mount and rings together. I have the ph rings with mine and didnt try others but the mount looks like it can use any 19mm weaver style rings, although im not sure.

Parker Hale mounts and rings have been out of production for many years so they are hard to find. Brownell's lists Williams side mounts and offset rings, versions for both the No.1 and No.4/5 Lee Enfields.

Are the Addly mounts any good or do they sit too high?
I may just live with irons if it's too much trouble to make it work. Out of my realm here with this one....if it was a Mauser I'd be good lol.
