So I put my Bushnell AR-223 Optics 1-4x 24mm on my 7.62x39 rifle...yeah, it didn't work too well. Is there a similar scope for the .30 caliber? What kind of tactical scope are folks using for this caliber? TIA for any info or advice...

Edit: I see a Bushnell AR91424BI on Amazon, designed for the 300 Blackout. Would this be suitable? I really like my 223 version...

What was the problem that caused it not to work out ?

I find the Bushnell AK optic to be big and bulky for what it is, which I don't really get why they didn't just make a different reticule for their AR223 scope. Considering most people won't be shooting beyond 200 yards with a x39 I's say EOTech is a great option. The XPS2 model is what I'd go with.

Basically it needed a ton of adjustment, and I prefer to use it on my .223 rifles. I thought it would shoot to a similar point of aim, but it didn't at all.

Doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. You thought a .30 caliber bullet traveling at ~2400 FPS would have the same POA/POI as a .223 bullet traveling at 3500-4000 FPS? I think you need to temper your expectations. Your existing scope works just fine, but having a dedicated scope for that rifle is probably the best bet. For x39, a 1-4 or a red dot would be best.

What kind of adjustment? Are you referring to just getting a zero, or are you referring to bullet drop at various distances?
If you are referring to bullet drop alone, then it is of course going to depend upon the ammo you are using, the distance you zero the scope, muzzle velocity, bullet, environmental factors and the distances you want to shoot with it.

Even with reticles that have a BDC, you are always going to be more precise to spin up your elevation and 'count clicks'.

My thinking was this: Jeez, I really like this scope on my AR. I wonder if I can use it to test the accuracy of my 7.62x39 AR....it should at least show if the rifle is grouping consistently. Ummm...it's not hitting the paper at 50 yards...darn, it must be way out of adjustment on this rifle, and I don't want to mess with it. Guess I need a dedicated scope...I wonder if my pals on GunNutz can suggest a good scope for me...

Just to be clear, I did _NOT_ think that the scope designed for .223 would work _the same_ on a .30 rifle. I'm sure I could get it on the paper if I wanted to, but that would mean messing it up for my .223 rifle, and I'd prefer not to do that.

I'm going to look into the AK scope and the 300 Blackout scope which is 75 bucks cheaper. I don't want a dot sight because my geezer rated eyes _need_ a scope, and the illuminated reticle works pretty well as a substitute. Thanks for your advice, everybody....
