Well i have some big changes in my life. I have set fourth personal goals that have a due date of sept 1 2013. The start of a new hunting season (well biggame season). In reward i be buying a new rifle. The rifle i have chose is a CZ550 kevlar carbine in 30-06. The rifle is not up for negotation as i have been drooling over a 550 for years and now the kevlar carbine is on the market and the old lady is getting jellious. The part i am hung up on is a scope. This rifle will be my everything gun. Deer, Moose, Black bear and maybe a Grizzly. I will be in everything from heavly treed areas and clear cuts to mountan tops and across swamps. Shots will be no more them 300yrds. I currently have a weaver K6 on my 30-06 and its clear and bright but a little much for up close and lacking on the further reaches. So maybe a 3-9 would be nice. I have had a eye on the Ziess conquest but still remain undesided. i would like to keep the package under 2000$. so a scope around the 5-700$ mark would be nice.

I am open to any configuration you guys would recommend.

Thanks

Leupold VX3 1.5-5 with Heavy Duplex...

good idea ... i would just like to add , make sure the paralax is set for 100 yards. Ive recently had some troubles with my VX3's in the timber at close range. If your scrunched up or off cant with a 200yrd paralax it can throw you out and put you in a position for a poorly placed shot or an all out miss. Just learned this the hard way.

Leupold Vari X III 2.5-8.......perfection for a 30-06. IMHO

Just had a look at the specs. Very intresting. The Eye piece is smaller then the conquest. Should help with the high bolt lift of the 550. I will be heading to the store to have a look.

thank you

The 2-7x33 is the only I scope I use for hunting and I am very happy with it. All my other scopes are big heavy target scopes, so not much more I can help with. Although, one of my target guns wears a Zeiss and it may be the clearest glass I've ever looked through.

Or the newer VX3 model especially if you get it with the Boone & Crockett reticle.

I have one of the Vari X 111 2.5-8X36mm and two VX3 2.5-8X36mm scopes all have the B&C reticles.

I have the Vari 111 mounted on a 21" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 375JDJ = 260gr Accubonds @ 2300fps, the VX3's are on 22" barreled T/C Prohunter barrels in 30-06 and 375H&H.

3.5-10 VX3 with B&C is about as good a "do everything" as anything. A 2.5-8 is also a good choice. The Conquest needs to be mounted high to clear the bolt handle, but CZs usually end up with rings that look like stilts anyway.
