What Scope for a M14s?

I plan on putting a scope on my recently acquired Norc M14, and i was worried about what to put on it because i've herd a lot about the rifle being very rough on scopes and i dodn't want to run out and pick something up just to have it get smashed. Basically i'd want something 10x with a mil-dot reticle. I have a Tasco 2.5 - 10x mil-dot on my 10/22 and i'd love to put that on my M14, but again i'm worried it's get smashed.

I'm just curious what scope you M14 owners are running and what would my options be for a M14 ready 10x mil-dot scope?

Thanks

the standard line seems to be nothing cheep. I'm considering a Russian Dragonov scope fron eastwave right now. Quality seems to be quite high and the price is under $200 for their 4-8x42 with integral weaver base.

I have a cheap Sunclear 1.5 to 5 x 30 on one that has lasted for over a year and I have seen no signs of failure yet. My new one is going to get a USO SN-3 3.2 to 17 by 44. So I am at both ends of the spectrum for scopes. :D

For the budget minded, the cheapest but best quality seems to be the Bushnell Elite 32-4200 series, or you can try to get a Super Sniper. For what I mentioned you're looking at $250-450. If money is not an object look at something from Leupold, Nightforce etc....

I bought a German Hensoldt Fero Z24 scope off Ebay from a seller in Germany. One thing though its a STANAG base, so not compatable with standard rings or mounts, will have to ether use a adapter or modify the scope mount itself. :)

The Bushnell Elite 3200 fixed 10x scope, with MilDot reticle and large target turrets is great. ;) I asked the same question awhile back, and had quite a few guys recommend this. I know P&D has them for $239. I love mine.

Before your question can really be answered, what is your budget for the scope??? Another thing to remember is the the M-14 is REALLY hard of scopes because of the action it has. You get what you pay for with these rifles.

The Bushnell is a good scope but for my M-14 I got a Falcon from Cyberk from the very web site :D. Lots of people have them and if you do a search you can find lots of info about them. Heres a pic of mine...

I am using a NF 2.5-10 NSX, it is most likely overkill by most standards(over 3x the price of the rifle) but I had it for my AR-15-SPR setup which has been sold, so it now sits on the M305. I like it alot, also you need to look at the rail adapter you will use on the rifle cus no point in having a good scope if the base is not rugged and stable, I am using an ARMS#18 with ARMS#22Med rings.

Good glass is easily at times 2 times the cost of the rifle. ;) And just cause the M14S is cheaper then the scope doesn't mean the M14/M1A series of rifles do not deserve good glass. ;)

Still that scope you have on your M14S is one of the 2 I'm starting to save for and its cheaper then the gun I'm putting it on 2,400$ verses 1,450$!

Sure the German one is nice but in a couple of years I want to switch it out for a 2.5-10 x 24 NXS with zero stop or a USO scope. Just like when I save for anything, the decision will come once I got all the money in my pocket and about 5 minutes before I place the order. :)

I have had a Bushnell 3200 10x Mildot, and several leupold MK4 3.5-10 X 40mm LR/T scopes on my M14s over the years...............never a problem with them.

However I have seen many M14 owners have problems with the cheaper/low end scopes...............in particular the adjustments stopped tracking properly and the scope would not repeat adjustments or hold zero.................

I have found low end optics are hit and miss..............sometimes you get a good one, and sometimes a piece of junk.

My advice is to buy once.............buy the best scope your budget allows...............even if you have to shoot your iron sights and save a little longer...................

Dimitri summed it up pretty well.........

I dropped almost $4000.00 on a scope for my Sniper rig a year and a half ago and it was one of the best investments I have made............ as far as scopes go................:D
