I have a Remington 760 in 257 roberts that is in new condition. I would like to scope it but want to use a scope from the 1955-61 era to match the rifle and maintain originality. What kind of scope am I looking for? Where might I find one of these?

Are you hanging it on a wall or hunting with it? It it is just for show, find an old Redfield or Leupold fixed power, they come up in the EE fairly regularly... if you are hunting with it, forget about a 70 year old scope and buy a modern (with classic styling) scope... a VX-2 in your choice of magnification would look great don't oversize the objective... 40mm max.

I'm not going to use it. It still has grease in the barrel. I am just trying to make it appear ready to go for the era it was built.

Watch the EE... search "antique" or "vintage" or "old" in the optics section of the EE.

Another thing to watch is the Sporting Arms section... many older guns are listed with vintage scopes... the scopes add little value for the seller and they may be open to an offer on the scope separately.

The Vintage Bushnell (Scopechief) Japan are a very good Quality Scope...I didn't realize it for years, and was replacing them with Leupolds, and German Scopes....The one I still have are still hangin' in there.

Here are a few from that period:

Leupold 4x Mountaineer started in 1954
Leupold 4x Pioneer started in 1951

Lyman 2.5x Alaskan started in 1939 to 1957
Lyman 4x Challenger started in 1949
Lyman 6,8, and 10x Wolverine started in 1954

Weaver K2.5 started in 1947
Weaver K4 started in 1947
Weaver K6 started in 1950
Weaver KV 2.5-5x started in 1950

Thanks for the scope info. Very helpful.

These are all quality optics that you can pick up for under $150 in good condition... in clear weather, I wouldn't hesitate to hunt with any of them... I just wouldn't trust their water/fog-proof integrity.
