i have 6 sakos right now and i have all optilock rings and bases on them except for my sako 85 7mm-08 finnlight. i have had no problems with the rings and bases i just want a lighter setup. i just bought a Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x40 scope and according to leupold the scope weighs 12.3 oz. what scope mounts do u recommend. i wanted to put the sako optilok 1 piece bases on them but cant find them in canada.

the optilocks have the plastic sleeve and it seems to protect the scope from scratches. how are the leupolds against scratches

The optilocks are better but the leupolds are still quality rings.

I know some guys that have Talleys or Warnes and prefer them to optilocks, though I have used neither.

I have always used original SAKO rings, and never had a problem. They are light, very strong, and can be had in low configuration.

IMO, Optilocks are heavy and over-engineered for what they are needed to do. Because of the design, they cannot mount a scope as low as SAKO rings.

with the 7-08 mike stay with what you have ... big power warren or old sako and do not be shy as to seat the mounts as per brass punch on side of bass for big power if scope does not take it lose it

I prefer the Leupold ringmounts over the optilocs.

+1 ! Leupolds are simple and work great, they allow for a bit more eye relief if you need it, their Low rings are really low, and they utilize the wonderful integral dovetails on the action. The Optilocks require you to mount a base on a receiver that already has a base integral to its design! WTF?

Scratches aren't an issue if you take care to mount the rings properly and in alignment, and take a few moments to lap them in before dropping the scope in during final mounting.

My primary reason for using the Leupolds, is because they allow more eye relief than either the Opti locks, or the Sako ringmounts.
