What scope to get?

I know not everyone can swing it, but you should consider a Nightforce NSX 5.5-22x with a thin reticle like an MOAR-T. They have tons of vertical adjustment in them which is useful if you are reaching out to 1800 yd. They pop up on the EE pretty regularly, you might be able to get one around $2300-2500. Many people will tell you that this is the price of admission for a scope that will perform well in a box test and that you can have confidence in.

I absolutely love my Primary Arms 4-14x with the mil-dot reticle. Doesn't have illumination though. It's ridiculously cheap for the price (only $399 new). For me, I only want mil-dot and first focal plane, and it met both those criteria. If you prefer MOA instead of mil-dot, then Sightron probably has some options.

I've read good reviews of the Falcon Optics 4-18. Don't own one myself so I can't comment on optical clarity, but others appear to enjoy them.

When it comes to glass I recommend, figure out what you are doing with th optic, what recital that works for you ect and buy the highest quality scope you can afford even if you have to save up for a while, buy once cry once!! I purchased a fantastic NF NXS from the EE two years ago, saved my self 1000$ and couldn't be happier with the scope! look for transferable life time warranties

Hi.
New to the precision aspect. Getting a custom rifle built in .300wm. Now i need a scope for it...Lots of options. I have 6-700 bucks to spend on something hopefully a little bettet than 4x12? Thanks for the help.

So,there’s what you get for asking that question:)

You’re probably more confused than when you started..:)

Not really. I think i chose the appropriate scope for this rifle. 6x24-50
That’s great, and no matter what you got,at least you will have first hand experience with it.

I like finding out for myself, what I like.
Ends up costing a bit more, but worth it.

I will rain on the parade. There is no point in spending the 6-700 on a scope for the new custom .300wm. Save money and spend approx 1500 or so and you will have glass that will do justice to the new rig.

This, buy a Sightron or Nightforce and you will appreciate the difference, however if you are really planning on sticking to a $600 - $700.00 budget a Bushnel Elite is a fine scope for the money.

I picked up a like new Sightron last year for around $900 ...that was as cheap as I saw and could afford for my main target rifle

I've never owned one of the premium brands (Sightron, Nightforce etc.) but can confirm that Nikon rifle scope glass is excellent for the money (optics are their business - I've had two Nikon DSLRs and several lenses). I like a used Bushnell Elite Tactical series in your price range but as noted by others, clarity and brightness are not always 100% at top magnification. I expect this is true of many mid-level optics and I'm very happy with mine regardless.

Maybe save up a few hundred more and try to find a used Sightron 8-32x56?

Brad,I’ve been trying a lot of scopes, the past few years.

And I’ve never found a $500 scope that compares to a $1500 scope.
But I haven’t tryed the SWFA yet.
Maybe I should.

Also the reason I like my scopes to be clear, is so I can see my hits on paper.

But I’m sure, not everyone needs that capability.

For me anyway, the main criteria for a scope is to hold zero and to have accurate/linear adjustments for elevation and windage.

There are scopes out there classed as premium , that will not do this, it negates the quality of 'glass' big time if you can not make reliable precise hits.

An example , I replaced a 6x42 Leupold with an M1 turret with a SWFA 6x moa-quad. 3 shot sight in, the 3rd shot was to confirm the second, turret moves where they are supposed to be, 5 shot groups tightened up as it obviously holds zero better than the Leupold.

These scopes are not for everybody as the turrets are fairly large and may get hung up in some hunting situations.

Glass is as good as anything I've looked through for the purpose of hitting a target.

2x performance at about half the price.
