What scope would you all want on a sbl 45/70?

Well, I don't agree with all the low power variable recommendations...because I want to see clearly what I am shooting at and sometimes a low powered scope "just wont cut the mustard" when your trying to judge a trophy or just trying to find a suitable spot of ribs to hit thru a bunch of leaves/branch's and such...to put it bluntly, I want exceptional target awareness , not just "good enough"...to this point I always use at the minimum a 3-9 but usually its on of my 6-24's that get used on any rifle I will hunt with, especially the 45-70's I have.

That’s what binos are for. ;) And frankly speaking from experiences outfitting, “target awareness” typically decreases with increased magnification. We are always asking clients to turn their scopes down to the minimum power and you wouldn’t believe how many of them have always hunted with it at max magnification. Routinely you’ll get surprised comments about how much easier it is to find the animal and aim at lower magnification. The less jittery sight picture of lower magnifications also often relaxes shooters and you get better shooting from many a layman hunter with a clearer, broader, less jumpy scene in the scope. When guys are trying to weave it through twigs and tell the haunch from the shoulder really that’s when the shot should probably be called off. Personal opinions on the matter of scopes and how they’re applied. My client loner rifle wears a 1-4x20mm, and it’s set at 1x by default, if you’re shooting 300 use 4x and it’s still more than enough.

Whatever floats your boat... IMO, a 6-24X on a .45/70 is asinine.

Fair enough. Can you post a pic, I have never seen a 6-24 scope on a lever... So I'm unsure if you're joking and/or trolling... ;)

X2 on the Elite for my 444. The only time it leaves 2X is at the range. Works very well where I hunt.

Agreed!

Nikon ProStaff Slughunter on mine. 2-7x32 with the ballistic reticle. Nice clear scope for a reasonable price. I was going to put a Vortex Diamondback on it of the same power, but this reticle seemed suited for the 45-70, and I ended up putting the Vortex on the wife's .22. Mounted with old school Weaver steel rings. I think "low", and I had to relieve the mount to fit.

I ended upwith a leupold 3-9x40 ,mounted just like a regular scope ,no eye smashing with leverevolution 325 ammo,so far it's been really good ,zero complaints ,glass is super clear .

I have a set of 10x42 binos on my chest for that. If I have time to look for a shot, I have time to take the binos out. If I don't have enough time and can't make out what I need to see through my scope, I'm passing.
