what scope?

so i have a cz 527 varmint in .204 ruger on its way to me, need to pick a scope for it and i really dont have any idea on what scope i should be putting on it. never had to buy a scope before. im looking for spending ~400

right now the two scopes that stick out to be are the Menace 4.5-18x56 or the Menace 4-14x44FFP

If you ranging your targets then FFP 4-14
if you'd like more zoom than 4.5-18

personally would lean towards FFP as 56mm objective would requre me to get cheek-pad of some sort

for gopher shots with a max range of 500m am i going to need more than 14x? i like the fact i can range from any magnification on the FFP

Gopher shots? 8" target at 500m, you might want to go up in variable power to 24x. Lots of brands to choose from for $400.
Check the exchange forum,your local gun store, or local gun/benchrest clubs for used scopes. I have picked up some great deals this way in the past and saved some money instead of buying new. Warranty by some manufacturers are transferrable.
